The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a member of a right-wing Hindu outfit and seized huge quantity of explosives from his residence at Nallasopara in Palghar district of the state, police said today. Vaibhav Raut, a member of 'Hindu Govansh Raksha Samiti', was apprehended from Bhandar Aali in Nallasopara West late last night, an official said. "ATS sleuths raided his residence and shop where they found huge quantity of explosives, including crude bombs. Some literature was also seized," he said. After taking Raut into custody, the ATS team returned to Mumbai, where he would be interrogated. He is likely to be produced before a court this afternoon, the official added. Two persons have been arrested here for suspected drug trafficking after two-and-a-half kg of cannabis was seized from them, police said today. The two, identified as Pramod Yadav (25) and Raju Mani (28) were arrested yesterday from a CNG pump in Parthala area, under Phase 3 police station limits, they said. While Yadav is a local, Mani hails from Odisha, but was settled in Ghaziabad for the last few years. "A total of 2.5 kg of ganja was recovered from the two accused,"Phase 3 Station House Office Amit Kumar Singh said. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said, adding they were presented in a local court which remanded them in judicial custody.

The Supreme Court will next week hear Congress leader Kamal Nath's plea seeking random verification of VVPAT machines in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly polls. The matter came up today before a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar. In his petition, Kamal Nath has sought a direction to the Election Commission to randomly verify VVPAT slips with EVM votes at 10 per cent of polling stations in every constituency. A class two student of a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) school in the upscale Gol Market area was allegedly raped by an electrician inside the institute's premises, police said today. The incident came to light when the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents after returning from school yesterday, a police official said. The accused, identified as Ram Asre (37), has been working in the school for around a month and is a permanent electrician employed with the NDMC, the police said. He has been arrested and a case has been registered against him under the relevant section of the IPC and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, they said.

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped by four men in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, the police said today. The woman, who lives in the S R Nagar area here, told the police that the incident took place in March, but she did not approach the police then, they said. The Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) on Thursday arrested former promoter and managing director of Bhushan Steel Limited (BSL), Neeraj Singhal.Singhal was later sent to judicial custody till August 14 after being produced before the court of Competent Jurisdiction.The arrest was made as part of the investigation, directed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, into the affairs of BSL and its several Group Companies by SFIO. Authorities in Jalisco say that 20 bodies have been found in two clandestine graves in separate locations in the cartel-plagued state in western Mexico. Jalisco state attorney general Raul Sanchez Jimenez says 10 bodies were found in Tlajomulco and 10 were found in the Santa Elena de la Cruz neighborhood of Guadalajara. He says they are two separate cases. Sanchez said in a news conference yesterday that on the night of August 5 local authorities reported a man had been shot near the Tlajomulco property and later died after seeking medical attention. Authorities identified him as the leader of the local cell of the Jalisco New Generation cartel. Two men were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and killing a seven-year-old boy in Rohini area here, police said today. The child went missing on August 5 and his father had been receiving ransom calls demanding Rs 1 lakh since then, they added. Subsequently, a trap was laid and the accused were arrested, officials said. The accused, who lived in the boy's neighbourhood, had allegedly strangled the child immediately after kidnapping him but still called the father with a ransom demand, they said. Yesterday, they led the police to the place where they had dumped the boy's body, officials added. The accused are claiming to be juveniles but it is suspected that they are not, police said, adding that they have been changing their statements frequently. A probe is on to determine if more people involved, officials said.
