A man was electrocuted to death while repairing an air-condition at a mall in south Delhi's Sarojini Nagar, police said today. The deceased was identified as Sarwar Ali, a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, they said. He was rushed to Safdarjang Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The body was sent for post-mortem, the officer said, adding that a case of negligence has been registered.
Members of Dalit and Rajput communities clashed in an Ahmedabad neighbourhood after Karadia Rajputs, an OBC group, allegedly objected to a Dalit youth wearing shorts and sporting a moustache, police said today. The clash took place in Kavitha village on Tuesday night, following which members of both the groups have filed complaints against each other at Bavla police station, P D Manvar, deputy superintendent of police, said. He added that up to five people from the Rajput community have been detained for questioning. In his complaint, Ramanbhai Makwana has alleged that seven people attacked his nephew Vijay on July 31, when he had gone to a shop in the village. Makwana has alleged that the seven people, reportedly belonging to the Rajput community, made casteist slurs against Vijay for wearing shorts and keeping a moustache, a Bavla police official said. The complainant stated that later a few Rajput men came in a pick-up truck and attacked Makwana's brother Vinubhai and the latter's .
The Supreme Court today sought the response of the Centre and the Bihar government on the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls at a shelter home run by a state-funded NGO in Muzaffarpur district. A bench of Justices M B Lokur and Deepak Gupta took cognizance of the matter and expressed concern that the alleged victims of sexual assault at the shelter home were subjected to media interviews again and again. The bench, which issued notices to the Bihar government and the Centre, also restrained the electronic media from telecasting images of the alleged victims even in a morphed form. It asked the media not to interview the alleged victims, saying they cannot be compelled to relive the trauma again and again. The top court said the probe agency would take the help of professional councillors and qualified child psychiatrist in questioning the victims. It directed the CBI to carry out a forensic examination of the shelter home. The case will be next heard on August 7.
A Bangladeshi national disguised as a Sikh to rob a pawn shop here has been arrested, Singapore police said today. Sheikh Md Razan, 29, who was working as a construction worker previously and had overstayed since last December, was arrested yesterday evening. Razan, wearing a pink turban, entered a 'ValueMax' pawn shop outside Boon Lay Mass Rapid Transit station at about 4.30pm on July 28 armed with a knife and a replica of a gun, which later turned out to be made of plastic. Pawn shop is a shop or business common for exchanging jewellery for cash here. On barging in the shop, he demanded that the shop's employee hand over to him all the cash and jewellery. When the employee refused, the man allegedly said he would blow up the shop, claiming he had an explosive device. The body of a 10-year-old boy, who had been missing since Tuesday, was found near a brick kiln in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said today. Two persons were arrested with arms and ammunition from Amrity, 12 km from here, the police said today. Acting on an information, the police apprehended the duo last night, Superintendent of police Arnab Ghosh said in a statement. A 24-year-old man, suspected to be a member of the Neeraj Bawana gang, suffered injuries in an encounter with police today, a senior officer said. The encounter took place near the Millennium depot in southeast Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan area at around 5:15 am, he said. The accused, Saddam Hussain, was previously involved in seven crime cases and was wanted in a firing incident that occurred Kotla Mubarakpur, the officer said. Police had received information that Hussain would come near the Millennium depot on a motorcycle. Subsequently, a trap was laid to arrest him. Hussain fired at the policemen, who retaliated. He suffered bullet injuries in the exchange of fire and was taken to a hospital, the officer said.
The Uttarakhand government on Thursday summoned two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in connection with the National Highway (NH) 74 land scam.The officers, namely Pankaj Kr Pandey and Chandresh Kr Yadav, were summoned after findings unearthed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) were submitted.On Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister assured that action would be taken against those found guilty in the case, regardless of whether the accused was a "junior level official or any bureaucrat".Rawat's remark came after the SIT team probing the alleged irregularities handed over its report to Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh.Irregularities worth Rs. 300 crore were detected in the acquisition of farmland for the purpose of the proposed NH-74 between 2011 and 2016.As per reports, agricultural land was shown as non-agricultural land to increase the compensation by up to 20 times for some persons.Most of the land in question is located in Jaspur, Kashipur, Bajpur and Sitarganj ..

A woman chopped off her husband's genitals for allegedly neglecting her and "staying with his second wife", police said today. The incident took place in the Mimlana area yesterday. The man was rushed to a hospital in a serious condition, they said. The man had married the second time with consent of his first wife, as they did not have a child. The second wife had recently given birth to a child, Station House Officer, Kotwali police station, Anil Kaperwan said. A gang of six burglars who were caught dancing on CCTV camera footage before committing robbery in north Delhi's Lahori Gate area have been arrested, police said today. The unusual act was caught in a CCTV camera installed in the lane where a burglar apparently indulged in an impromptu victory dance after other members of the gang successfully broke into multiple shops and stole cash, electronic items etc, they said. The accused were identified as Alam, Anand, Sahib Ansari, Mohammad Safeeq, Salman and Anil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Nupur Prasad said. One autorickshaw, two laptops, one LCD, some other electronic items and lock-breaking equipment were recovered from their possession, she said. Three Ukrainians have been arrested for hacking more than 100 US companies and stealing millions of credit and debit card numbers, the Department of Justice announced today. Dmytro Fedorov, 44, Fedir Hladyr, 33, and Andrii Kolpakov, 30, are high-ranking members of an "international cybercrime group" called "FIN7" which had dozens of members around the world, the department said in a statement. "Since at least 2015, FIN7 members engaged in a highly sophisticated malware campaign targeting more than 100 US companies, predominantly in the restaurant, gaming, and hospitality industries," it said. "FIN7 hacked into thousands of computer systems and stole millions of customer credit and debit card numbers, which the group used or sold for profit," it said. The Justice Department said members of the "prolific hacking group" also targeted computer networks in Britain, Australia, and France.
