The police on Wednesday raided another shelter home run by Brijesh Thakur after a case was registered against him over the disappearance of 11 girls from the shelter home.Thakur is the prime accused in Muzaffarpur's shelter home case, where more than 30 minor girls were sexually assaulted over a period of time.The CBI had taken over the investigation from Muzaffarpur's Mahila Police Station, where the case was registered on May 31, under Section 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 376 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4, 6, 8, 10,12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).The alleged sexual exploitation of the girls was uncovered more than a month ago by a Mumbai-based social science institute. They had submitted its report in April.

Three allegedly notorious robbers wanted in several robberies were arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district today, the police said. A police team led by the SHO of Bazar Shukul police station SK Pandey nabbed three robbers near Harakhmau village on the Raniganj-Bazar Shukul Highway under suspicious circumstances, Additional SP BC Dubey told reporters. They were identified as Ajay Kumar of Shahpur, Sunil Giri of Tendua and Raj Karan of village Mangrauli under police station Bazar Shukul, he said. Later, they confessed to their involvement in several incidents of robbery, he added. The police recovered 10 cell phones, four motorcycles, a country-made pistol, some live cartridges and cash worth over Rs 2,000 from the possession of the three men.

S Vignesh allegedly recorded his act and demanded money from the girl by threatening to upload the clip online if she did not part with Rs five lakh, a city police release said. He was arrested yesterday by policewomen based on a complaint from the 16-year-old girl's mother. A 15-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by two men in a moving car here, police said today. Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother yesterday, a case was registered against Praveen (37) and his friend. In her complaint, she mentioned that her daughter was in trauma since the incident. She said the two men had also threatened her daughter not to disclose the incident to anyone, saying they would eliminate her family. The victim and Praveen had met on social networking site Facebook. Praveen had been putting pressure on the girl to meet him, the police said. On July 26, he called the victim near Lal Dwara temple, where he along with his friend was waiting in a car, they said. An executive engineer of Rural Engineering Service (RES) department here was caught allegedly taking a bribe of Rs three lakh from a contractor today, Lokayukta police said. The engineer, identified as Virendra Singh Verma, had demanded a bribe of Rs eight lakh from the contractor for releasing his firm's Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDR) and clearing bills amounting to Rs 10 lakh, Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Jabalpur, H P Choudhari said. "Based on the complaint, a trap was laid and an employee of the contractor firm was sent with Rs three lakh cash as the first instalment at Verma's official residence. As soon as the money changed hands, Lokayukta team caught him red-handed," the DSP said. Verma was booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, he added.

A bill to amend the law for speedy disposal of commercial disputes and seeking to reduce the pecuniary jurisdiction of commercial courts from Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 lakh was passed by the Lok Sabha today. Replying to the debate on the Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said "this bill is a larger narrative pursuance to ensuring India's performance in the ease of doing business." "We want to provide option of using commercial dispute resolution to smaller traders also," he said replying to opposition concerns regarding already over-burdened courts. The bill, which was passed by a voice vote in the Lok Sabha, also allows state governments to establish commercial courts at the district level, even in territories where high courts have ordinary original civil jurisdiction. A case was registered today against a Shirdi civic body official and his wife on charge of allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income, an ACB official said. Shirdi Municipal Council chief accountant Murlidhar Desale and his wife Rekha allegedly amassed properties worth Rs 17,30,618 between December 1994 and December 2010, the Anti-Corruption Bureau stated in a release. Four days after they reportedly went missing, bodies of four members of a family were today found stacked on top of each other and buried in a pit in the backyard of their house in the district. The bodies bore injury marks, police said. Police identified the deceased as Krishnan (52), his wife Susheela (50), their daughter Arsha (21) and son Arjun (19). Neighbours said they had not seen the family for the past four days. Police said they could have been killed after July 29. The deceased lived in a secluded place in a rubber estate at Mundanmudi. Neighbours and some relatives went to the house this morning and found blood stains on the floor and walls and immediately informed police. Police said a search in the backyard revealed loose soil and when they removed it, the four bodies, with injuries, were found dumped on top of each other. The bodies have been shifted to Kottayam medical college for post-mortem.

The AAP government today told the Delhi High Court that the Centre has informed it that amendment of penal law to deal with the issue of chain snatching was not required. The Delhi government had earlier this year written to the Centre to consider amending the penal provisions to deal with chain snatching, a serious issue plaguing the national capital. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar asked the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Delhi government to file affidavits indicating their stand on the issue and listed the matter for further hearing on October 30. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed today the discharge plea of Gujarat IPS officer Vipul Aggarwal in the Tulsiram Prajapati 'fake' encounter case in the Bombay High Court. The role played by Aggarwal in the conspiracy was different from that (allegedly) played by Gujarat ATS chief D G Vanzara, who has been discharged, the CBI lawyer said. Aggarwal is facing trial on the charges of destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy. His discharge application wasdismissed by the trial court in November last year.
