A large number of materials for making 80 semi-automatic pistols were recovered from four passengers of a bus near Herudiyara in Munger district, police said today. Acting on an information that some men were carrying the materials from Kolkata, a police team intercepted the vehicle and recovered them and arrested the four persons last night, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Mangla said. The arms making materials were bought from a place near Kolkata and being taken to Munger for assembling, he said. All the four persons were remanded to jail custody.

A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape his mother, police said here today. Circle Officer City Sumit Shukla said the incident took place on Friday night, when an ice cream vendor Kesri (25) in an inebriated state attacked his 45-year-old mother and tried to rape her. The mother somehow rescued herself and alerted her neighbours, who caught the ice cream vendor, he said. A case has been registered in this regard against Kesri on a complaint lodged by his father, the CO said. The accused has been arrested, the officer added.
Thane police today claimed to have solved 11 cases of house break-in and theft in the Kalwa area with the arrest of two men. Stolen goods including jewellery, laptops and mobile phones, worth Rs 15 lakh in total, were recovered from the possession of Abrar Akbar Shaikh (21) and Ramzan Galib Shaikh (27), the accused duo, police said. They were also suspected to have committed thefts in Mumbra, Ulhasnagar and Dombivli, said deputy commissioner of police D S Swami, speaking to the media. Most of the thefts allegedly committed by the accused were reported last year. Police had tightened the vigil in the area after there was a noticeable increase in cases of theft. The accused were tracked down from CCTV footage, the DCP said.
Three persons were arrested for allegedly smuggling liquor, police said today. Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh today said three persons were arrested yesterday and liquor worth Rs 1.25 lakh recovered from two cars. Singh said two cars were being used to smuggle liquor from Haryana. He added that of the three arrested, two were from Pratapgarh, while the third person was from Sultanpur. A Maoist leader has been arrested from Aurangabad district of Bihar during a police raid, a senior officer said. Acting on a tip-off, a special police team nabbed the self-styled commander of CPI(Maoist) yesterday near a brick kiln in the district, Superintendent of Police Satya Prakash said. "We received information that around a dozen Maoists, under the leadership of their leader Vipin Sharma, have gathered in the area for a meeting. Three special teams were immediately constituted to carry out the raid. One of the teams managed to arrest the Maoist leader," he said, adding that the other rebels managed to escape into a nearby forest. An international arbitration tribunal will in February next year begin hearing in British telecom giant Vodafone's challenge to India using a retrospective legislation to seek Rs 22,100 crore in taxes. The tribunal, headed by Sir Franklin Berman, will hear the government's objection to tax matters being covered under the Netherlands-India Bilateral Investment Treaty, which was used by Vodafone to trigger an arbitration over the tax demand, a senior official with direct knowledge of the development said. India has also challenged tribunal's jurisdiction to decide on such matters, he said. While Vodafone is supposed to file its response to the government objection by July, India will respond to this by December, he said, adding that thereafter the tribunal will begin hearing in February 2019. Five people were today arrested for allegedly killing a 17-year-old boy in Beed's Prakash Ambedkar Nagar area, police said. "The victim, Amar Narayan Hatagale, was going home when one of the accused, Rahul Lahu Ankushe, picked up a fight with him yesterday night. Four of Ankushe's relatives joined in and assaulted Hatagale," said police inspector P S Bade of Peth Beed police station. He said that the victim was rushed to the local civil hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by authorities there. The official informed that the five accused had been charged with murder and further investigations were underway.
