It also said charges against three others including Veerappan stand abated, in view of their death. According to the prosecution, on January 27, 2000, a team of Special Task Force personnel while conducting a search operation in Guthiyalathur forest found some people moving in the area with tusks. The Supreme Court today prohibited any further construction not in confirmity with the building bye laws in 1,797 unauthorised colonies in Delhi and questioned the authorities' intent in regularising such colonies having illegal constructions. The apex court, while observing that there cannot be any area in Delhi where there was no "rule of law", directed the Centre to immedietly set up a special task force (STF) to oversee enforcement of laws regarding unauthorised constructions, and asked it to remove encroachments from public roads, public streets and the areas meant for pedestrians. A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta, while refusing to vacate the stay at this stage on the proposed amendments in the Delhi Master Plan-2021, also sought details and figures on the status of groundwater level in the national capital since 2000 onwards. The body of an unknown woman was found wrapped in a bag in Noida today, the police said. The police received information in the morning about the bag in Sector 115 area, said Pankaj Pant, the station house officer (SHO) of Sector 49. The woman's age appeared to be around 25 years of age. It seems she was apparently killed somewhere and dumped here, Pant said. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, the SHO said, adding that they were waiting for the report to ascertain whether she was raped before being murdered.

A 59-year-old woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her brother following an argument over his drug addiction in west Delhi's Vikaspuri area, police said today. The woman, identified as Ashwani, was taken to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital in Janakpuri yesterday where she was declared brought dead, Vjay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (West), said. Her mother, who was a witness in the incident, told the police that the woman was allegedly stabbed by her younger brother Latinder (33). Latinder is a drug addict, the official said, adding that his sister used to question him about his addiction. Yesterday, he asked for money to buy drugs, which led to an argument. The accused picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her twice, he added. A case was registered and subsequently, he was arrested, the official said.

In a case of honour killing, a 25-year-old woman was hacked to death allegedly by her father and brother for having an affair with a man from another caste in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district, the police said today. The victim, was killed by the father-brother duo last night in Nagla Nathu village of Sirasganj area, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manoj Kumar said. After the murder, both the accused dumped the woman's body in an area outside the village, where it was found this morning, the SSP said. Delhi minister Imran Hussain today told a city court that the police was not properly investigating his complaint about being mobbed and assaulted by some officials a day after the alleged attack on chief secretary Anshu Prakash. The Delhi Environment Minister, through his counsel, submitted before Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra that despite being given the names of his attackers, the police has not taken any action on his complaint. "Counsel for applicant submits that investigation is not conducted properly. He submits that the complainant in the FIR clearly mentioned the names of the persons who attacked him but no action has been taken by the police so far," the magistrate noted in his order. The police, meanwhile, submitted its status report on the investigation so far and informed that the hard disk containing the CCTV footage of the alleged incident has been sent to the forensic lab for examination. The Centre today asked Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana to tighten security and deploy additional forces ahead of the verdict by a Jodhpur court in a rape case against self-styled godman Asaram, an official said. In a communication, the Home Ministry told the three states to beef up security and ensure that no violence takes place after the judgment tomorrow. Two minor girls were allegedly raped in separate incidents in Parbhani and Hingoli districts in Marathwada region of Maharashtra, police said today. In Parbhani district, a seven-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man earlier this month, while in Hingoli, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Sunday by a man, who blackmailed her with a video clip, police said. Accused in both the cases have been arrested, they added. The first incident took place on April 13 in Gandhi Park area in Parbhani. "The 30-year-old accused identified as Sayad Bablu Ashraf kidnapped the girl and raped her at a village in Purna tehsil in the district," Parbhani superintendent of police Dilip Jhalke told reporters. The accused was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.
