The condition of the six-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and strangulated in Cuttack district yesterday, continued to be critical today, doctors attending her said. "The patient continues to be in critical state though there has been a slight improvement in her condition in the past 24 hours," SCB Medical College and Hospital Superintendent Prof Shyma Kanungo said. The girl, who suffered deep injuries in her head, face, neck, chest and private parts, was rescued from inside a school campus near her house in Jagannathpur village of Salepur. Kanungo said the girl is on life support system, and a team of doctors drawn from various departments are attending her round-the-clock. Meanwhile, the accused of the same village, arrested yesterday, was produced before a local court today and remanded in jail custody, police said.
An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two men at Gena Tola Chhatbaniya village of Bihar's Madhubani district, police said. As per an FIR lodged yesterday by the victim's mother, the incident occurred when she had sent her 11-year-old daughter to bring vegetables from the wife of a man of the same village. When the girl reached his residence, his son and another youth allegedly locked her in the room and raped her one by one. The girl, who received bruises on her body, managed to escape, the FIR said. Station House Officer Ramesh Kumar Sharma said that an FIR has been lodged under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4/6 of the POCSO Act. Though the incident of rape will be known only after getting a medical report, the SHO said, adding that police have taken the two accused men in custody for interrogation. If the report of medical examination -- for which the girl has been sent to Sadar hospital Madhubani -- confirms rape then the men could be awarded death sentence .
The body of a 67-year-old woman, bearing head injuries, was found at her residence in Hauz Khas today, the police said. The deceased, identified as Usha, was bludgeoned to death, they said, adding that it is yet to be ascertained what weapon was used in the crime. The entry to the house, which was found ransacked, seemed friendly, the police said, adding the woman's husband was being questioned whether any valuables are missing.

A court here has sent a man to three years in jail for molesting his minor cousin and has imposed a fine of Rs 9,000 on him which is to be paid to the victim. The victim is also entitled for a compensation of Rs 50,000, which will be given to her by the state government. Public Prosecutor Reena Chauhan said that on November 20, 2016 when the victim and her sister's parents were not in the house in Shimla district, the convict came to sleep there at night. He molested the victim after bolting the door of the room whee she was alone. When the victim raised an alarm, her uncle and aunt came to her rescue, but the convict managed to flee. He was later arrested and charged under relevant sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Chauhan said.

The family of a woman admitted at Kannauj's Medical College hospital, alleged on Monday that she died due to lack of oxygen supply.Ranjit, son of deceased Rani Devi, told ANI that she was admitted to the emergency ward of the hospital late Sunday night but no treatment was provided to her."Today morning, she was shifted to the general ward and there also they did not do anything. When she started having trouble breathing, we requested for oxygen supply many times but they did not oblige," he said.The hospital authorities, however, refuted the allegation and said the woman did not require oxygen supply."The 80-year-old lady was admitted in serious condition but she did not require oxygen. There is no shortage of oxygen supply at our hospital," CMS Dileep Singh said.
The CBI probing the gang-rape and killing of a minor girl near here, took the key accused in the case to various places and adjoining forests in Kothkai area today for spot identification, official sources said. The key accused was arrested earlier this month. CBI officials took the accused to the spot where the body of the 16-year-old girl was recovered on July 6 last year and other locations, the sources said. They said possibilities of some more arrests in the case before April 25, the date set for filing of fresh status report in the case, cannot be ruled out. A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father in Panigaon Amtola area of Assam's North Lakhimpur district, a senior police official said today. The accused, a blind man, who earned his livelihood by singing on the streets, was caught by locals while allegedly committing the crime at his house on April 21, District Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh said. The accused, however, managed to escape, and a search operation is underway to nab him, he said. An FIR has been lodged at Panigaon police station against the accused by 'Nari Surakshya Samittee', a women rights activist group based out of Lakhimpur. The girl, in her statement to the police, said that her mother deserted them a few months ago, and since then, she used to be raped, the SP said. The girl was rescued along with her younger brother by the group, which has also handed over a video of the alleged act to the police.
The Kolhapur sessions court today sentenced 11 persons to life imprisonment in two related murder cases from the same village. Ashok Maruti Patil was murdered on February 13, 2013 out of a political rivalry between two factions of a local Congress unit at Pachgaon in Karveer tehsil of this western Maharashtra district. It led to a revenge murder of Dhanaji Tanaji Gadgil in the same village on December 23, 2013, according to the prosecution. The two cases were tried separately. A constable of Delhi police and eight other people have been arrested from central park of DLF colony here on the charge of gambling, the police said today. On the complaint of the residents, Sahibabad police conducted a raid in the area last night and arrested the nine accused, Deputy Superintendent of Police (CO Border) Rakesh Mishra said. The accused have been identified as Saleem, the Delhi police constable, Gopal, Devesh, Kuldeep Rawat, Abhijeet, Bharat, Dinesh, Navneet and Maneesh. Six of the nine accused were residents of Delhi, the officer said, adding Rs 1.4 lakh in cash were seized from them. He said the arrested accused were connected with each other through a WhatsApp group. The police are probing their links with IPL bookies in national capital region, Mishra said.
One of the prime accused in Sheena Bora murder case, Indrani Mukerjea on Monday told the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court that she fears for her life."I fear for my life, I have not given my statement to IG Prisons. A 19-year-old Dalit woman, whose house was burnt down during the violence at Bhima-Koregaon in Pune district earlier this year, was found dead, with Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh leader Prakash Ambedkar today claiming it appeared to be a "murder". A senior police officer said that a case of abetment of suicide was registered against nine people, and two of them have been arrested. The body of Pooja Sakat was found in a well near her house in Bhima-Koregaon area yesterday morning. The day before, her family had registered a complaint that she was missing, a police officer had said earlier in the day. A woman caretaker was arrested today for allegedly molesting a four-year-old girl on the premises of a school in south Mumbai, police said. The alleged incident, which occurred around ten days ago, came to light today after the girl's family members approached Byculla police station and lodged a complaint, a police official said. "Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under sections 4, 6 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the caretaker, who is in her late 50s," said DCP, Zone III, Virendra Mishra. The names of seven persons, who were booked in connection with a clash that took place between two groups on April 13, were excluded from the FIR, a senior official said today. Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Sharma, when contacted, said that seven names were dropped from the FIR but these would be made public only after approval by Jalandhar Zone IG Naunihal Singh. These seven names were among 16 Dalit activists nominated in the case registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and National Highway Act. A 28-year-old woman committed suicide today after pressure was put on her allegedly by her husband and other family members to withdraw a case against her brother-in-law, accused of trying to rape her in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, the police said. The brother-in-law allegedly attempted to rape the woman last Thursday, when her husband was not present at the house in Alawalpur village, 28km from here, a police officer said. After the woman filed an FIR, the accused was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the officer said. Later, she was being allegedly pressurised by her husband and in-laws to withdraw the case, following which, she committed suicide by consuming poison, he said. She was rushed to a hospital in serious condition, where she was declared dead, he added.
