13-yr-old girl raped by doctor in UP's Muzaffarnagar

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly confined by a doctor in his clinic for three days and raped at a village here, police said today. The girl managed to escape from her confinement and report the matter to her father yesterday, Circle Officer (CO) SKS Pertap said. On the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl's father, the doctor, Sonu Verma, was arrested and his clinic was sealed. Some objectionable material was also seized from the clinic, the officer said. The complainant alleged that the doctor confined his daughter in his clinic when she had gone to bring some medicines, the CO said. The officer said according to the girl's father, the doctor had given her a sedative and raped her. The complainant also claimed that he along with villagers had launched a search in the area after she went missing, he said. The matter is being investigated and the girl was sent for medical examination, Pertap said.

Two bars raided in Thane; 31 arrested

The district police raided two bars and arrested 31 people, including 13 women, on various charges, an official said today. The raids were conducted on the two bars in the Kashimira locality last evening, Assistant Superintendent of Police Atul Kulkarni said. The action came following complaints of rampant violation of norms by bars operating in the area, he said. A total of 31 people, including 13 women working in these outlets, and also some customers were arrested during the raids, Kulkarni said. The women were found allegedly engaging in "obscene" acts and they were "encouraged" in these moves by bar staffers and customers, the police officer said. Police also found a number of violations in operation of the bars, he said. Cash totalling Rs 71,100 was seized from the outlets, Kulkarni said. Offences under IPC section 294 (obscene acts and songs) and other relevant provisions were registered with the Kashimira police station against the two outlets, he added.

Delhi govt issues guidelines for safety, security of children

The Delhi government has issued guidelines for safety and security of children in all the child care institutions in the national capital. The women and child development department has issued an order on the guidelines and compliance of standard operating procedures, saying that all child care institutions must have adequate number of security officers, guards, CCTV cameras and fire extinguishers to ensure safety and security of the children in such institutions. According to department, there are 107 child care institutions including 14 government-run centres. "Adequate number of CCTV cameras must be installed at prominent places of the child care institutions, specifically at the entry and exit gates, perimeter walls, staircase, playgrounds, dining room, entertainment room and administration block so that the activities of the children are monitored effectively," the order stated. Law Min tells other ministries not to seek legal opinion from AG,bypassing it

Don't violate rule of law by seeking legal opinion directly from the Attorney General, the Law Ministry has cautioned central ministries, asserting that it should not be bypassed while asking for advice from law officers. In a strongly-worded letter, Law Secretary Suresh Chandra has said that ministries should avoid "impropriety" by approaching the AG directly. The letter comes months after the then AG Mukul Rohatgi had urged the government to junk a rule which bars him from giving legal advice to various ministries without involving the Law Ministry, saying it delays decision-making on important matters. "All the ministries/departments are again requested that while seeking legal advice, they should follow procedure to as to avoid illegality/impropriety on account of jurisdictional error or procedural impropriety... Family of road mishap victim gets Rs 12.91 lakh compensation

The family members of a 35-year-old woman, who died after being hit by a speeding car in 2015, have been awarded Rs 12.91 lakh compensation by an accident claims tribunal here. Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) presiding officer Rajeev Bansal directed New India Assurance Company Ltd to pay the woman's husband and their three minor children an amount of Rs 12,91,312 as compensation. The tribunal, while deciding the petition, relied on the documents filed on record including the FIR, charge sheet, victim's postmortem report and the vehicle's mechanical inspection report. According to the petition, the woman was an attendant in a school in Noida. On October 19, 2015, while walking on a service road, she was hit from behind by a rashly-driven Tata Indica car. She was taken to a hospital but she died during treatment, it said. The tribunal, while deciding the petition considered that she was earning Rs 10,000 per month and her husband was a tea vendor who claimed to be earning Rs 200 ..

Kathua rape case: Police to submit supplementary charge sheet

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have informed that they are in the process of submitting a supplementary charge sheet in the Kathua rape case."After completion of all legal formalities of the investigation, a charge sheet was produced in the competent court of law and the investigating agency is in the process of submitting a supplementary charge sheet," read a statement issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch, which is investigating the matter.They also rebuffed the reports claiming that the girl was not subjected to rape before her killing."On the strength of opinion furnished by medical experts, it has been confirmed that the victim was found subjected to sexual assault by the accused," read the statement.It added that even the medical expert has also opined that the hymen of the girl was not found intact.In accordance with the medical report, Section 376 (D) Ranbir Penal Code was added in the case.The statement further read that the medical opinion has established beyond doubt ..

Man gets 10 years in jail for kidnapping, raping minor

A local court has awarded 10 years of imprisonment to a man for kidnapping and raping a minor girl here three years ago. It also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict. Additional District and Sessions Judge Om Prakash Srivastava invoked the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act yesterday to sentence Vipin Rajvanshi, a man in his early 40s, to 10 years in jail for raping the girl and five years for kidnapping her. Both sentences would run concurrently, Additional Public Prosecutor Rajesh Kumar said. Rajvanshi, a resident of Narhat police station area of the district, had kidnapped the girl and raped her on December 4, 2015, Kumar said, adding that the victim lodged an FIR two days after the incident.

UP: 4 minors sexually assaulted in separate incidents

Hours after the Centre gave its nod to an ordinance to amend the existing Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act, allowing courts to award death penalty to those convicted of raping minors, four incidents of sexual assaults were reported in different parts of Uttar Pradesh.In the first incident, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a middle-aged man in Rampur.The minor girl's father said in a statement that his daughter had gone to fetch some water when a man seduced her and sexually assaulted her in a secluded area.The man, who fled after the incident when the girl fell unconscious, was later captured by the police.Superintendent of Police (SP) Rampur Vipin Tada said that an information was received in Swar police station that a girl was allegedly raped."The accused has been arrested and a case has been registered against him. Man killed in random knife attack at California steakhouse

A homeless man who randomly stabbed a patron in a crowded Southern California restaurant to death as he was holding his daughter was reported just a few hours earlier for disruptive behaviour, but police ultimately determined he was not a threat, authorities have said. The Alappuzha fast-track court on Saturday awarded a death sentence to the former local secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), R. Byju, for the murder of Congress ward president K.S. Murder case lodged in Rajouri teenager death case

Some persons were today detained for questioning in connection with the mysterious death of a teenage boy in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir as police changed inquest into a murder case, a police officer said. After a written complaint by the family of the deceased, police have registered a case under relevant sections including 302 of Ranbir Penal Code in Budhal police station in connection with the death of the boy after closing inquest proceedings," the officer said. Siddaramaiah writes to PM Modi, says CMB 'unconstitutional'
