Three naxals, including a woman, each carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh, have surrendered, Gadchiroli police said today. The three had been involved in serious offences like murder, ecnounters and ambush attacks, police said. Police identified the woman naxal as Pakli alias Pagni Poyami of the Sandra dalam and the two others as Satish alias Hilma Kosa Holi of Bhamragad dalam and Manoj alias Dasrath Sakharam Gawde of KKD dalam. Police said that so far in 2017, a total of 22 naxals have laid down arms under the surrender and rehabilitation scheme of the government.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today directed immediate clearance of 72 pending militancy-related cases for ex-gratia relief in Rajouri district, an official spokesperson said. The chief minister disbursed cash compensation among 20 such families and appointment orders among two kins of the persons who were killed in various militancy-related incidents in the district, the spokesperson said. District Development Commissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said a total of 72 cases of militancy victims from the district are pending with the government for more than 20 years and with the chief minister's order, compensation in respect of 22 cases was disbursed. In respect of remaining 50 cases, he said, compensation would be released next week and there would be zero-pendency of such cases in the district, the spokesperson said.
An Army jawan was arrested yesterday for allegedly parading a woman with a garland of slippers around her neck. The incident occurred at the jawan's native Alur village under Umarga tehsil of Osmanabad district, police said. Police said that jawan Shivananda Swamy committed the act after he found out that the 55-year-old woman was allegedly spreading rumours about his wife. Assistant Police Inspector MI Shaikh of Murum police station said Swamy was arrested after a case was filed. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday filed a chargesheet in a Delhi court against businessman Gagan Dhawan in a money laundering case.The court today took cognisance of the chargesheet and scheduled the next date of hearing on January 3.In November, the ED had arrested the Delhi-based businessman, an accused in Rs 5,000 crore money laundering case, and sent him to seven days custody.According to reports, Dhawan had allegedly aided bank loan frauds related to a Vadodara-based pharma firm, Sterling Biotech.The ED registered the case against him after taking cognisance of the case filed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against the pharma firm, its directors and several other persons in connection with the alleged bank fraud case.On August 25, the ED officials raided Dhawan's office and that of a former Congress MLA Sumesh Shokeen under provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
The Delhi Medical Council (DMC) on Saturday issued notices to nine doctors and two nurses of Delhi's Shalimar Bagh, Max Hospital in connection with a case of newborn twins who were falsely declared dead.The council has sought a reply within 15 days in this regard.Earlier on December 20, the hospital resumed its operations after it got relief from the Court of Financial Commissioner on cancellation of the hospital's license by the Delhi Government.The medical negligence of falsely declaring a newborn dead and giving it away to the parents in a packet by the Max Hospital had created an uproar early this month, following which the state government cancelled the licence of the hospital on December 10.The father of the children accused the hospital of deliberately declaring the baby dead and trying to get rid of him after he told the authorities he would not be able to pay Rs 1 lakh per day for their treatment.
The tenure and mandate of the tribunal set up to try the accused involved in the February 2005 bomb attack in Beirut that killed 22 people, including former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, and injured many others, has been extended by three years by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.It maybe recalled that four individuals who were indicted for the killings, are being tried in absentia since January 2014 by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. The tribunal is located near The Hague in the Netherlands.The tribunal's mandate has been extended from March 1, 2018 till February 2021, or upon the completion of the trial if sooner."The United Nations looks forward to the completion of the mandate of the Special Tribunal in a timely manner," spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday filed a supplementary chargesheet against a Kolkata-based businessman, Paras Mal Lodha, in a Delhi court in connection with the alleged conversion of old currency into new ones.This supplementary chargesheet also has the name of lawyer Rohit Tondon as an accused.Earlier, the investigating agency told the court that they were probing the role of Tondon in the case.The supplementary chargesheet, filed before the additional sessions judge, Ajay Kumar Kuhar, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) also gave details of the alleged role of Tondon and others involved in the case.The next hearing in the case has been fixed for February 2 next year.The Kolkata-based businessman has been accused of being involved in the conspiracy along with Tandon and converting old demonetised notes into new currency on a commission basis.
Maoists today torched the two tractors which were illegally carrying boulders from jungles in Bihar's Munger district, a senior police officer said. Superintendent of Police Ashish Bharti said the incident occurred at Paisra village under Dharhara police station of the district this morning. The two tractors belonged to Sanjay Rai and Sikandar Rai, both residents of Ghatwari village of Dharhara police station of the district, he said. The local criminals in collusion with Maoists were stealing boulders from jungles, SP said adding that Maoists torched tractors after they had quarrel with the criminals, the illegal stone miners, over the payment of levy to them (Maoists). Police are conducting combing operations to nab the Maoists, he added.
