The Mumbai police today said they were looking into a complaint, seeking the filing of an offence against actors Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty for allegedly using a casteist term on a television show. The complaint was filed at the Andheri police station yesterday by Navin Ramchandra Lade, the general secretary of the Rojgar Aghadi Republican Party of India, seeking that a case be lodged against Khan and Shetty for allegedly using the casteist term, the police said. The term was allegedly used by Khan during a television show, Lade said in his complaint, adding that Shetty also used it in an interview, hurting the sentiments of a community. The complainant also submitted recordings of the remarks made by the actors to the police, who said they had received the complaint, but no case was registered as yet. Senior RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said that the party would move the high court against a special CBI court order convicting party chief Lalu Prasad in a fodder scam case today. The Delhi Medical Council has issued a notice to nine doctors and two nurses of Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh for alleged medical negligence in connection with the case of a new-born twin baby who was wrongly declared dead by the facility. The DMC sent the notice on December 20 and has sought a response from them in 15 days. "The notice has been sent to nine doctors and two nurses through the medical superintendent of the hospital," a senior official of the Council said. "Earlier, based on media reports, we had sought a reply from Max hospital and they respond about a week back. This time we have sought individual responses from the doctors and nurses," he said. A special CBI court today convicted former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad and 15 others in a fodder scam case while acquitting six including another former chief minister Jagannath Mishra. CBI judge Shivpal Singh pronounced the verdict in a packed courtroom in the case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994. Lalu Prasad, the chief of RJD, and other convicts were taken into custody immediately after the pronouncement of the verdict. A charge sheet was filed against 38 persons on October 27, 1997. Eleven of them died and three turned approvers while two other accused confessed and were convicted in 2006-07, a CBI official said.

A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the Indo- Pak border, while he was crossing over to the Indian territory at Ajnala here, an official said today. The 70th Battalion of the BSF shot dead the Pakistani intruder, aged around 65 years, when he ignored the warnings of the personnel and kept proceeding, the BSF official said, adding that the incident took place yesterday at around 10.30 pm. The body was kept in the mortuary after conducting a post-mortem, the official said, adding that further investigations were underway. The BSF had foiled an infiltration bid from across the border in September, when it shot dead two armed Pakistani intruders along the Indo-Pak border at Ajnala.

The agency said it has issued a provisional order, under the sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), attaching 336 sq mtrs of a plot located in DLF city phase-III in Gurgaon, near here. The ED said it found the asset involved in money laundering and purchased out of the proceeds of crime of the alleged defraud of bank loans in this case. The prosecution complaint (charge sheet) was filed before Additional Sessions Judge A K Kuhar by ED Special Public Prosecutor Nitesh Rana who said the court has now kept it for consideration on February 2, 2018. Three persons, who gunned down an engineer at Kendrapara town in broad daylight on Thursday, have been arrested, police said today. The police had tracked their mobile phones and nabbed them yesterday. Six mobile phones were recovered from their possession. Extortion was the motive of the crime, police said. A court here has awarded one-month jail term to BJP MP Jagdambika Pal for violating Model Code of Conduct during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The MP, however, was granted bail by the court soon after. Pal had been charged for using vehicles more than the permissible limit during a rally in Bansi while campaigning for the 2014 polls. The then SDM had lodged a case against Pal in Bansi Kotwali for violation of model code of conduct, additional prosecution officer Keshav Pandey said.
