6-yr-old girl abducted, gang-raped in UP

A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two men when she had gone to relieve herself in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district, police said today. The accused abducted the girl on Thursday night after she went out of her house to answer nature's call, they said. "She was found yesterday in a bad shape," Superintendent of Police N Kolanchi said today. "The girl has been admitted to a hospital," Kolanchi said, adding that the culprits were being pursued.

2 killed after truck hits bike in UP

Two persons were killed after a truck hit the motorcycle they were riding in Manjhanpur here, police said today. Babulal, 60, and his son-in-law Rajendra Babu, 40, were riding the motorcycle near Teva village yesterday when a soil-laden truck hit the bike from behind, killing them instantly, they said. "The bodies have been sent for post-mortem," a police official said. The truck driver has been arrested.

Ex-Marine held over San Francisco Christmas attack plot: FBI

Federal agents arrested a former US Marine for allegedly plotting a Christmas attack in San Francisco inspired by the Islamic State jihadist group, according to court documents. Tow truck driver Everitt Aaron Jameson, 26, was planning to target the city's busy Pier 39 tourist spot, according to an affidavit submitted by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney. The suspect is said to have outlined to undercover agents how he wanted to use explosives to target crowds at the pier between December 18 and 25 because "Christmas was the perfect day to commit the attack." Jameson professed not to need an escape plan as he was "ready to die," according to the document. The suspect's home in Modesto, California, was raided by FBI agents on Wednesday, where they allegedly found his last will and testament along with weapons and ammunition. Elderly US couple caught with 27 Kg of Marijuana, says 'was for Xmas presents'

In a shocker, an elderly United States' couple have been caught with around 27 kilograms of marijuana which they said they planned to give as gifts.Patrick Jiron, 80, and Barbara Jiron, 83, who were from northern California, were enroute to Vermont.Several media reports stated that the couple was allegedly pulled over by police in Nebraska, about midway through their trip, for traffic violations. The police smelled a pungent odor originating from their pickup truck.They told police that the pot were intended as Christmas presents."They said the marijuana was for Christmas presents," Sheriff's Lt. Paul Vrbka told the York News-Times.The Jirons now face felony charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver.Even though a couple of states, including California have legalized the drug for recreational use, pot is illegal in Nebraska.Authorities estimated that the marijuana was worth about USD 336 000.

CL of Delhi WCD staff to be deducted on reaching office late

Cracking the whip on lax babus, the Women and Child Development Department of the Delhi government would now deduct one casual leave for every three times an official reaches office after 9.45 am, besides seeking a written explanation from them. The move comes after it was observed by the department that some officials posted at WCD Headquarters were not reaching office even till 9.45 am. The department has issued a memorandum, stating that all officers and officials will ensure punctuality in reaching their respective office. "As per order, one day CL will be deducted for every three late comings after 9.45 am and the officer and officials will also submit the explanation," Deputy Director (admin) S K Srivastava said in the memorandum. Fate of Lalu Prasad in Rs 900 crore fodder scam to be decided today

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Ranchi will pronounce its verdict on Saturday in a fodder scam case in which former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad is an accused.The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo, Prasad on Friday expressed hope that he would get a clean chit in the fodder scam case like other accused in the 2G and Adarsh scams."We trust and respect the judiciary. Virbhadra case: Order on LIC agent's bail plea expected today

The Patiala House Court on Saturday is expected to deliver the order on the bail plea of LIC agent Anand Chauhan, in connection with a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case.Chauhan was arrested in July last year in Chandigarh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), under the provisions of the PMLA, for not cooperating with the agency. However, he was granted an interim bail by a special court for November 25 - December 5 for attending the wedding of his niece.Thereafter, the hearing on Chauhan's bail plea had been adjourned for December 19 by the Patiala House Court. On the same day, the court had reserved the order for December 23.For the unversed, the ED in September last year had filed a chargesheet against Chauhan in the money laundering case involving Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and others.It is said that Chauhan was instrumental in investing Rs 5 crore in LIC polices in the name of the Singh, including his wife and children.

Man commits suicide by jumping off from 6th floor of building

A 43-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the sixth floor of the Sankhyiki Bhawan in Shahdara area, police said today. The victim, Rajeev Mehra, who was working as an upper division clerk, went to the sixth floor of the building on Wednesday and jumped off, they added. Initially, the police had registered a murder case since some cut marks were found on his neck and it was suspected that he was pushed, the police said. Later, a paper-cutter was recovered from the spot and a suicide note was also found, they said. In the note, he said that he was under financial stress and was not able to repay a loan of Rs 15 lakh, the police said. He had allegedly tried to slit his neck using a paper- cutter but could not do so, they said.

Man beaten up in road rage incident

A man was beaten up by three people after his motorcycle scraped against a car in Shahdara, police said today. They said the accused, who were drunk at the time of the incident, had been arrested. The incident happened on Thursday. Garvit was beaten up after his motorcycle scraped against a car on a traffic signal. The passersby came to Garvit's rescue and caught hold of one of the accused. Garvit suffered a fracture, they added. Later, the two others were also arrested.

Woman raped by man on pretext of job

A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man on the pretext of getting her a job in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area, police said today. The accused, who worked at a local dental clinic, called her to his workplace on Wednesday and allegedly raped her, they said. She later informed her family members who approached the police, the police said, adding that the accused has been arrested.

HC stays further proceedings against Stayzilla

The Madras High Court today stayed all further proceedings against online homestay aggregator Stayzilla for allegedly failing to make payments due to an advertisement company and defrauding it of Rs 1.69 crore. Judge M S Ramesh granted Stayzilla interim relief till January 22, on a plea by its founders Yogendra Vasupal and Sachit Singhi, who had urged the judge to quash the case pending in a special court of central crime branch (CCB) here. The criminal proceedings were initiated against them on a complaint from C S Aditya of Jigsaw Advertising and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Aditya alleged that Stayzilla failed to make payments for services rendered since February 2016 and defrauded him of Rs 1.69 crore. A case was registered by CCB against the founders for criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal intimidation.
