19-year-old woman raped in moving car in Shimla

A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a moving car here, police said Monday. The woman lodged a complaint through Gudiya helpline 1515 and alleged that she was raped by a person in the moving car at around 10 pm on Sunday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Shukla said. In the complaint, the woman stated that the incident took place when she was coming from Mall road on foot towards an area falling under the Dhalli police station limits, Shukla said. In the meantime, a car stopped near her, she was pulled inside it and was raped in the moving vehicle, the police official said. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered in this regard at Dhalli police station, the DSP said, adding that the matter is being investigated.

Bhima Koregaon case: Activist Varavara Rao's temporary bail plea rejected

A Pune court rejected on Monday a temporary bail plea of activist and Bhima Koregaon violence accused Varavara Rao who wanted to attend post-death rituals of his sister-in-law.Rao had requested a temporary bail for six days from April 29 to May 4 to attend the rituals in Hyderabad. Two shooters of Haryana gang arrested in Delhi after encounter: Police

Two sharpshooters of Naresh Sethi-Raju Basodi gang have been arrested after a brief exchange of fire in Delhi's Rohini area, police said Monday. They have been identified as Ravi (25), who was carrying reward of Rs 1 lakh, and Rohit (27), both residents of Haryana's Jhajjar, they said. They were wanted in three murder and two robbery cases in Haryana. "The members of the alleged gang belong to Jhajjar and Sonipat area. This gang has recently joined hands with Gogi gang of Alipur in Delhi," Rajiv Ranjan, Additional Commissioner of Police (crime), said. They have been operating in Haryana and were involved in contract killings, handling of disputed properties and extortion in Sonipat and Jhajjar districts, he said. Police got a tip-off on Sunday that Ravi and Rohit would come to Rohini for a robbery following which a trap was laid and at around 6.30 pm they were arrested, the officer said. Minor kills toddler over grudge against victim's sister

Nursing a grudge against a girl who had hit his younger sibling, an eight-and-a-half-year-old boy allegedly killed her toddler brother in South Delhi's Fatehpur Beri, police said Monday. According to a senior police officer, few days back, the elder sister of the toddler pushed the accused's younger brother due to which he fell down on the floor, leading to a minor swelling on the head. The accused was bearing a grudge against her since then and he killed the toddler alone to take the revenge, police said. Man held for molesting minor in northwest Delhi

A six-year-old girl was allegedly molested by her neighbour in northwest Delhi, police said Monday. The girl, a Class II student, was sent by the accused on Sunday to the grocery shop in Adarsh Nagar area. When she returned, he shut the door and started touching her inappropriately, the police said. The girl started crying, following which the accused got frightened and let her go. The minor immediately rushed out of the house and told her her mother about the incident, the police said. The accused has been arrested, and a case has been registered under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the police added.

3 cops booked, sent to police lines for 'implicating' man in false rape case

A sub-inspector and two constables were sent to the police lines and booked for allegedly implicating a man in a false rape case, officials here said Monday. DIG Upendra Agarwal said he had received a complaint from Nawab Ali Saifi (54), in which he alleged that the Indira Puri police post in-charge along with two constables and two property dealers had implicated him in the false rape case to extort money and tarnish his reputation. An investigation was initiated and the policemen were found guilty, the DIG said. Delhi HC directs AAP govt to decide 1984 riots convict's plea for parole

The Delhi High Court Monday directed the AAP government to decide the parole plea of Balwan Khokhar, who along with former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was sentenced to life imprisonment in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Justice A K Chawla asked the Delhi government to decide on Khokhar's plea within two weeks after the end of the ongoing Lok Sabha election. The direction came after the Delhi government told the court that due to enforcement of the model code of conduct during elections, prisoners cannot be released during the poll period. Khokhar has sought a parole to file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court order of December 17, 2018. The high court on December 17 last year had set aside the trial court's verdict, which acquitted Kumar in a case related to killing of five Sikhs in Raj Nagar Part-I area in Palam Colony in South West Delhi on November 1-2, 1984, and burning down of a gurdwara in Raj Nagar Part-II during that period. NIA arrests man wanted in fake currency case

The National Investigation Agency has arrested a person wanted in a fake currency case, officials said Monday. Saddam, a 22-year-old resident of Malda in West Bengal, was wanted in the case registered after fake currency notes were seized in Visakhapatnam last year. The agency arrested him Sunday and recovered alleged fake notes having face value of Rs 8,000 (four notes of Rs 2,000) from his possession, the NIA said in a statement. "Case relates to seizure of FICN of face value of Rs 10.20 lakh from two persons Md Mahaboob Baig and Syed Imran by DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) in Visakhapatnam on March 31, 2018. During investigation it was revealed that the accused persons had travelled to Malda from Bangalore and collected FICN from Saddam," the NIA spokesperson said. New UK rules over rape victims' digital data spark criticism

Police are asking rape and sexual assault victims for access to their digital devices under new guidelines published on Monday that prompted criticism from women's rights campaigners in Britain. Officers now present victims with consent forms to view messages, photographs, emails and social media accounts, with police warning that prosecutions may not go ahead without the permissions. SC restrains Punjab and Haryana HC from appointing civil judges without its nod

The Supreme Court Monday directed the Punjab and Haryana High Court Registry not to appoint any civil judge in Haryana without its nod and summoned the Registrar General with all the selection records pertaining to the exams held to fill 107 posts in lower judiciary. The top court was hearing the plea filed by 92 aspirants to the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) in Haryana. They alleged that 1,282 examinees, who had qualified the preliminary tests, appeared for the mains and out them only 9 were selected for the interview against a total 107 vacancies. "Issue notice, returnable on May 3. 208 FIRs, DD entries against political parties, others for poll code violation

As many as 208 FIRs and daily dairy entries have been registered against various political parties and others in the national capital for violating the model code of conduct, officials said Monday. Of these, 16 FIRs have been filed against the Bharatiya Janata Party, 13 against the Aam Aadmi Party, three against the Congress and one against the Bahujan Samaj Party, Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ranbir Singh said. He said authorities have removed over 3.4 lakh banners, posters and hoardings across the national capital. The model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha election came into force on March 10. The CEO said 1,155 FIRs have been registered and 1,157 people arrested under the Excise Act. Under the Arms Act, 424 FIRs have been filed and 496 people arrested. Stop gun show at weddings or lose license, Noida admin warns

The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration on Monday warned people against celebratory firing and misuse of licensed weapons during weddings and public gatherings, according to an official statement. The administration said it will cancel the license of the weapon owner if despite their warning such incidents are reported in Noida and Greater Noida. The warning comes within days of the Uttar Pradesh government asking all district magistrates and police chiefs to check celebratory firing and prevent misuse of licensed weapons. Court seeks Delhi Police reply on Tharoor's plea to travel abroad

A Delhi court has sought response from the city police on a plea by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, accused in the death case of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, seeking its nod to travel abroad. Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj issued notice to Delhi Police and directed it to file a reply by tomorrow, when he will hear the matter. Tharoor has sought court's permission to travel USA from May 5-20. The former Union minister has been charged under sections 498-A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 of the IPC, but has not been arrested in the case. BJP files complaint against Kejriwal's wife for possessing two voter IDs

Four suspected criminals arrested in J-K

Four suspected criminals, including one facing murder charges, were arrested on Monday, police said here. Murder accused Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Rehari Chunghi, had been on the run for the past nine years and was arrested by a special police team from Jammu, a police official said. A case was registered against him under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), including 320 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy), at Bari Brahmana police station in Samba district in 2010, the official said. He said the accused was produced in a court and has been sent to district Jail Amphalla in Jammu. In a similar raid, three more criminals -- Narinder Kumar, Rajesh Kumar and Baldev Singh -- were arrested from the Mansar area of Udhampur district by a police team, he said . The trio were booked for wrongful restraint and rioting in Vijaypur in Samba district, he added.

Kashmir: JeM module busted in Awantipora, 4 arrested

State Police on Monday busted a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror module in Awantipora that was involved in grenade lobbing and planting of explosives.The four people who have been arrested were involved in various terror activities in Tral and Awantipora areas.The crackdown has come just a day after three terrorists linked to JeM were arrested from Wathora area of Budgam district for allegedly attacking a police post in Srinagar.Further details are awaited.
