Stalin writes to PM on converting state roads as National Highways

The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention in declaring eight state roads as National Highways, saying in-principal approval has been already granted in this respect. Chief Minister M K Stalin told Modi that in-principle approval has been granted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for conversion of 500 km long eight State Highway roads as National Highways. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Stalin said sanction had also been accorded for the preparation of detailed project reports (DPR) and specified the roads in contention. "Accordingly, studies have been taken up for preparation of DPR for the above roads under Annual Plan 2017-18 by the State National Highways wing. The proposals for declaration of the roads have also been presented to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT&H) on 06.12.2018." Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday visited rain-affected and water-logged areas in Chennai and distributed food to needy people in various parts of the city.The chief minister reviewed the situation of the areas affected in the wake of incessant rains in the city.With the onset of northeastern rains, Chennai received the heaviest rains in the past six years, recalling the 2015 floods. It resulted in flooding in the central and northern parts of the city.Meanwhile, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), low pressure has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood which is likely to move from west to northwestwards and reach near the north Tamil Nadu coast by the early morning of November 11."Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood, a low-pressure area has formed over the same region. Stalin seeks PM's intervention for release of TN fishermen arrested by SL

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi on Friday, seeking his intervention for securing the release of 23 Indian fishermen, who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.In a letter, CM Stalin said, "On October 11, 23 fishermen from the state venture into the sea for fishing. Tamil Nadu CM Stalin launches scheme to melt temple jewellery

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday launched the preliminary work to melt into 24 carat gold bars, the unutilised jewellery in the possession of the temples in the State. Initially, the gold ornaments lying unutilised at the three renowned temples of Sri Karumariamman temple in Tiruverkadu, Sri Mariamman temple in Samayapuram and Sri Mariamman temple at Irukkankudi, will be melted and converted into gold bars for monetisation.
