Sisodia manhandling row: Court directs officials to preserve CCTV footage

A Delhi court on Thursday directed officials to preserve the May 23 CCTV footage of the court premises after AAP leader Manish Sisodia alleged he was manhandled by security personnel that day during his production in a case related to the alleged excise policy scam. The police also moved an application seeking court's permission to produce Sisodia only via video conference (VC), after he levelled the allegation. Police favoured Sisodia's virtual production contending that bringing him to court "creates chaos" due to the presence of Aam Aadmi Party supporters and media in the corridors. Special Judge M K Nagpal, after taking note of both the applications, directed Sisodia's production through video conference pending his decision on the prayers. Sisodia was produced before the court on Thursday via video conference. The AAP leader was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case related to the alleged scam on March 9 from Tihar Jail where he is currently lodged in judicial ...

Kejriwal must answer why Sisodia's bail pleas are getting rejected: BJP

The BJP on Wednesday said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should answer as to why his former deputy Manish Sisodia's bail applications in the excise policy case have been repeatedly rejected by courts. The Delhi High Court on Tuesday denied bail to Sisodia in the excise policy case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), saying being a former deputy chief minister and excise minister, he was a "high-profile" person and has the potential to influence witnesses. "Kejriwal should answer as to why Sisodia's bail is being rejected again and again. The fact that hawala money went to Goa has also been stated in the CBI charge sheet. Why is the party (AAP), which claims to be hardcore honest, silent on this revelation," Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva asked at a press conference. According to the CBI charge sheet, there is evidence that the liquor mafia gave Rs 2.2 crore to Sisodia and that money was sent to Goa through hawala. Delhiites want to know what ...

Sisodia liable for corruption in Delhi excise policy formulation: BJP

The BJP on Monday welcomed the denial of bail to former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia saying the politician is "liable for action" against him for "corruption" in framing of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. The Delhi High Court earlier in the day dismissed Sisodia's bail plea in the alleged excise policy scam being probed by the CBI, observing that he is an influential man and the allegations against him are "very serious" in nature. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma denied the relief to the AAP leader, who was arrested on February 26, saying he has held the post of the deputy chief minister with 18 portfolios and the possibility of witnesses being influenced cannot be ruled out. Addressing a press conference, BJP leader and Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi said: "There is a very famous proverb which says, fence eating the crop. This comes to my mind because there is a strong suspicion that those who are supposed to protect and uphold the law have become the violators of law ..

Delhi HC denies bail to Manish Sisodia in Delhi excise policy scam

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the excise policy scam being probed by the CBI. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma denied the relief to the AAP leader, who was arrested on February 26, saying the allegations against him are very serious in nature. The high court, while pronouncing its verdict on the bail plea, said Sisodia is an influential man and the possibility that witnesses could be influenced if he is released on bail cannot be ruled out. The CBI had arrested Sisodia for alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 following several rounds of questioning. He has challenged the March 31 order of a trial court which had dismissed Sisodia's bail plea in the matter, saying he was "prima facie the architect" of the "scam" and had played the "most important and vital role" in the criminal conspiracy related to alleged payment of advance kickbacks of Rs 90-1

Sisodia planted manufactured opinions in support of excise policy: CBI

Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia "planted" manufactured public opinions in support of the excise policy by getting favourable views from interns of Delhi Minority Commission to make grounds for the now scrapped policy, the CBI has alleged in its supplementary charge sheet. The Delhi government had constituted an expert committee on overhauling the excise policy, which had given its recommendations. Sisodia was unhappy with the recommendations, so he asked the then excise commissioner Rahul Singh to seek public opinion by placing the Dhawan Committee report on web site, the agency alleged in the charge sheet filed before the Special CBI court on April 25. In the supplementary charge sheet filed in the case against Sisodia and other accused, the central agency said he "dishonestly and fraudulently" wanted to prepare grounds through "fabricated public opinions" for incorporating provisions in the policy as per his "pre-conceived" ideas. The charge sheet said Sisodia "g
