Total employment in manufacturing industries up 7.5% in FY23: Govt survey

The number of persons employed in manufacturing industries rose 7.5 per cent in 2022-23 to 1.85 crore from 1.72 crore in the previous year, says Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The estimated number of persons engaged in this sector in 2022-23 exceeded the pre-pandemic level (2018-19) by more than 22.14 lakh, a MoSPI statement said adding that at the same time, average emolument also registered an increase over the previous year. Also, the average emolument per person engaged in this sector had gone up by 6.3 per cent in 2022-23 in comparison to 2021-22. The number of total persons engaged in manufacturing industries increased to 1,84,94,962 in 2022-23 from 1,72,15,350 in 2021-22. The figure was 1,60,89,700 in 2020-21, 1,66,24,291 in 2019-20 and 1,62,80,211 in 2018-19, the ASI data showed. Solex Energy has plans to scale up its module manufacturing capacity to 15 gigawatts which would entail an investment of Rs 8,000 crore, CMD Chetan Shah said on Monday. The investment will be made under 'Solex Energy Vision 2030' plan, the top company official told PTI. "We will increase module manufacturing capacity from 1.5 GW to 15 GW. The execution of the plan will require an investment of around Rs 8,000 crore," Shah said. Equity market will be the major source of investments and the remaining will come from financial institutions, he said. Centre setting up telecom equipment manufacturing zones, says Scindia

The government of India is setting up telecommunication equipment manufacturing zones in the country, as the sector is expected to go through a revolution in attracting foreign direct investments, Union Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia said on Friday. Biocon inks licensing, supply pact with Tabuk Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Biocon Ltd on Thursday said it has signed a licensing and supply agreement with Tabuk Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company to commercialise its 'GLP-1' products for treating diabetes and chronic weight management in select countries of the Middle East. Under the agreement, the company will develop and manufacture the products and Tabuk Pharmaceuticals -- a fully-owned subsidiary of Astra Industrial Group, a leading pharmaceutical company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, will hold the marketing authorisation rights, and be responsible to register, import and promote them in the region, Biocon said in a regulatory filing. India aspires to have 10 semiconductor manufacturing plants in 10 years but the nature of support from the government may vary based on the development in the industry, a top official of the India Semiconductor Mission said on Monday.
