The Mumbai police are planning to regulate the entry and exit of visitors at Galaxy Apartments, the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan in Bandra, following incidents of trespassing on the premises, officials said on Friday. The actor, who has received threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has already been provided Y-plus security cover. Earlier this week, the police arrested a man and a woman for allegedly separately trespassing at Khan's building. The official said considering threats the actor has received and trespassing incidents, the police are thinking of regulating the entry of visitors and improving the security arrangements. He said since it is a private building, checking every visitor can be a challenge. Senior IPS officer Deven Bharti has been appointed the new commissioner of Mumbai police, officials said on Wednesday. Bharti will take charge as the city's top cop later in the evening from incumbent Vivek Phansalkar, who is retiring after serving the force for 35 years. While the state home department issued an order about Bharti's appointment, it downgraded the post to the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), an official said. The post of Mumbai police commissioner is of ADGP rank, but it had been upgraded to DG rank in a few recent postings. A 1994-batch IPS officer, Bharti is currently the special commissioner of the Mumbai police.
The Mumbai traffic police have got a message threatening Bollywood actor Salman Khan and registered a case in this connection, officials said on Monday. In the message, received on the traffic police's WhatsApp helpline on Sunday, the sender threatened to blow up the actor's car and also thrash him by entering his residence, a police official said. An official posted at the traffic police control room then alerted seniors about the message, based on which the Worli police here registered a case against the unidentified person under section 351(2) (3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, he said. Mumbai police has decided to register criminal cases against those indulging in drunk driving since such incidents have seen a sharp rise in the last couple of years, a senior official said on Thursday. A notification to this effect was issued by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare, he said. While registering cases, the licence of the drunk driver will be impounded and his vehicle will be seized, the official added. "Taking serious cognizance of rise in cases, the traffic wing of Mumbai Police has decided to file criminal cases against drunk drivers under section 125 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for act endangering life or personal safety of others apart from provisions of Motor Vehicles Act at the local police station," Kumbhare told PTI. Disha Salian was a former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 12th floor of her building in Jankalyan Nagar in north Mumbai's Malad area on June 8, 2020, as per police. The closure report by Malvani police, which probed the incident, was submitted to a superior officer (as per rules for accidental death report) on February 4, 2021. As part of the probe, Malvani police recorded statements of her friends and some witnesses, during which it came to light that she was depressed due to some failed projects, misunderstanding with friends and misuse of her money by her father, the official said.
