Former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, one of the two BJP observers for its Maharashtra legislature party meeting, on Tuesday said the name of the legislature party leader will be finalised after talks with the party's newly-elected MLAs. The Mumbai police on Tuesday told a special court here that the name of Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has emerged as the main conspirator in the October 12 killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique. The police made this claim while seeking the remand of eight accused in the case, citing provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Special MCOCA court judge, A M Patil, remanded the eight accused, including main shooter Shivkumar Gautam, in police custody till December 7. Anmol, who was recently detained in the USA and lodged in a prison there, has been shown as a wanted accused in the case. During the remand hearing, the Mumbai police told the court that Anmol's name has surfaced as the main conspirator in the case during their probe. Heavy police security was deployed on Tuesday at a village in Maharashtra's Malshiras assembly segment after some locals cast doubt on the EVMs and insisted on conducting a "re-election" with ballot papers, officials said. The Malshiras sub-divisional magistrate on Monday imposed prohibitory orders, under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, from December 2 to 5 in the area to avoid any conflict or law and order situation due to the "repoll" plan of some locals, an official said. Residents of Markadwadi village under Malshiras segment in Solapur district have put up banners claiming a "repoll" will be held on December 3. The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) on Monday said it has recovered over Rs 200 crore from developers to compensate homebuyers for their losses. The authority also outlined plans to further intensify its recovery efforts. The real estate watchdog said it has issued 1,163 warrants for recovering Rs 705.62 crore across the state and has made developers cough up Rs 200.23 crore from 283 warrants involving 139 real estate projects, as per an official statement. Over Rs 378 crore of the recoveries are due from Mumbai suburban and Pune alone, the statement said, adding that specific efforts are being undertaken to expedite the same like appointing retired Tahsildars (revenue officials) in the offices of the district collectorates in Mumbai suburban and Pune. Of the Rs 200 crore in recoveries, Mumbai city contributed Rs 46.47 crore in recoveries involving 22 warrants in 13 projects, Rs 76.33 crore came from 85 warrants in 42 projects in Mumbai suburban and Rs 39.10

Maharashtra's caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who took ill at his native village in Satara district, is recovering and will return to Mumbai on Sunday evening, an associate said. A team of doctors checked on Shinde as he developed high fever on Saturday. The Shiv Sena leader headed to his native village Dare in Satara district on Friday amid speculation that he was not happy with the way the new state government was shaping up. Shinde had fever and throat infection, his family doctor R M Parte told news channels on Saturday. "He has been given medicines and put on IV (intra-venous therapy for medication). He will feel better in two days. He is leaving for Mumbai on Sunday," Dr Parte said. Registration of properties in Mumbai municipal region rose 5 per cent to over 10,200 units during November on better housing demand, according to Knight Frank India. As many as 9,736 units were registered during November 2023. In a statement on Saturday, real estate consultant Knight Frank India said that Mumbai city, under the jurisdiction of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), recorded 10,216 property registrations in November 2024. The civic-run Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking wants its fleet to have more than 50 per cent electric buses by 2025-26 and then raise the number to 8,000 in the subsequent years. In a release issued during the day, the metropolis' premier road transport undertaking said it has set an ambitious goal to have 100 per cent zero-emission electric bus fleet by 2026-27. An order has been placed for 2,650 single-decker electric buses, it added. On Thursday, BEST general manager Anil Diggikar presented the undertaking's Rs 9439.56 crore budget to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner and administrator Bhushan Gagrani for 2025-26. Flagging the "worrying trend" where long term consensual relationships, upon turning sour, were sought to be criminalised by invoking penal laws, the Supreme Court on Tuesday quashed an FIR lodged against a man for alleged offences of rape and cheating. Noting that the relationship continued for nine long years in the case, the apex court observed if criminality was to be attached to such prolonged physical relationship at a very belated stage, it could lead to serious consequences.
