Navi Mumbai airport to be operational in March 2025: MoS Murlidhar Mohol

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol on Saturday said the Navi Mumbai International Airport is slated to commence operations in March 2025. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Mohol visited the airport site and reviewed the progress of the ongoing work. "Going by the progress of the work, the airport will be operational in March next year. It will enhance connectivity with neighbouring Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kalyan, and western Maharashtra," Mohol said, highlighting its international standards and anticipated annual footfall of nearly 20 million passengers. He expressed positivity towards naming the airport after late PWP leader DB Patil. He also assured that issues about compensation for project-affected persons (PAP) would be resolved through discussions with management. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch, dedicate to the nation and lay foundation stones of projects costing over Rs 29,400 crore at a function at NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon during his visit to Mumbai on Saturday, officials have said. The PM will lay the foundation stones of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's (MMRDA) Thane-Borivali and the BMC's Goregaon Mulund Link Road projects, both with twin tunnels. He will lay the foundation stone for Central Railway's Kalyan yard remodelling and the Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. Sale of Mumbai luxury homes, priced over Rs 10 cr, up 8% to Rs 12,300 cr

Demand for luxury homes, each priced Rs 10 crore and above, remained strong with sales rising 8 per cent in January-June to around Rs 12,300 crore, according to a report by India Sotheby's International Realty and CRE Matrix. Sales stood at Rs 11,400 crore in the first half of the 2023 calendar year. In the report, India Sotheby's International Realty and CRE Matrix noted that the surge at the high end of the market aligns with an ongoing bullish trend in residential property sales overall, reflecting the exuberance and confidence in the Indian economy. 3.5 km north-bound stretch of Mumbai Coastal Road opens for vehicles

A 3.5-km stretch of the Coastal Road's north-bound carriageway here was opened for vehicular traffic at 7 am on Thursday, which will help in reducing the travel time to suburbs from south Mumbai, civic officials said. The stretch extends from Haji Ali to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road in Worli. It is part of the nearly 12-km-long Mumbai Coastal Road Project. It will help motorists avoid traffic snarls which they had been facing between Haji Ali and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The carriageway will be accessible to vehicles from Monday to Friday between 7 am and 11 pm, the BMC said in a release on Wednesday evening. The corridor is being opened temporarily for vehicles going to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link from the Coastal Road and will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays for completion of the remaining work of the project, it said. Mihir Shah, the prime accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, has told the police he was driving the car at the time of the crash which killed a woman and injured her husband, officials said citing the probe carried out so far. After crashing into the couple's scooter in the early hours of Sunday, Shah was very much aware that the woman was stuck in one of the tyres of the luxury car, but still he drove recklessly and did not stop though motorists passing by frantically signalled and shouted, asking him to halt, an official said on Wednesday. To conceal his identity, Shah shaved his beard and trimmed his hair, the official said, adding they were trying to find out if anyone helped him in changing his appearance. The 24-year-old accused, who is in police custody till July 16, has claimed he possesses a driving licence, but the document was yet to be recovered, he said.
