12% safeguard duty on steel products sufficient for now: Naveen Jindal

The proposed safeguard duty of 12 per cent on the import of certain steel products is sufficient and the industry will approach the government again if it faces import-related challenges in future, industry leader Naveen Jindal said on Monday. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended final imposition of a safeguard duty on imports of certain flat steel products for three years to protect domestic manufacturers from a sudden jump in inbound shipments. The duty was recommended by the DGTR in its final findings of a probe initiated on a complaint by the Indian Steel Association. "We would have liked it to be 25 per cent (safeguard duty). But if in their wisdom, they (DGTR) have recommended 12 per cent...that is sufficient," Jindal told reporters on the sidelines of ISA Steel Conclave 2025 here. Industrialist and former MP Naveen Jindal quit the Congress and joined the BJP on Sunday, saying he wants to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's agenda of 'Viksit Bharat'. Naveen Jindal takes charge as Steel Association prez with immediate effect

Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power on Thursday assumed the charge as the President of Indian Steel Association with immediate effect. In a statement, the Indian Steel Association (ISA) said that Naveen Jindal assumed the role of President, succeeding Dilip Oommen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AMNS India, effective March 21. Naveen Jindal, Chairman, Jindal Steel and Power (JSP) has been unanimously elected as the President of the ISA by the Apex Committee, the governing body of ISA, according to the statement. Steel industry along with its upstream and downstream manufacturing value chains will have to grow in tandem for India to realise its development goals. The industry is committed to decarbonise and reduce its carbon footprints to meet its target in line with the Prime Minister's commitments to the world, Jindal said. ISA is the apex body of the domestic steel industry and works collectively to highlight the issues of the sector.

Coal scam: Delhi court allows Cong leader Naveen Jindal to travel abroad

A Delhi court has allowed Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal, accused in three cases related to alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks, to travel to Oman and UAE from September 11 to 13. Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj allowed Jindal's application noting he had travelled abroad several times in the past and returned to India to face the trial within the stipulated period. "In the considered opinion of this court, the applicant/accused is entitled to permission of the court to travel abroad to Oman and UAE from September 11 to 13," the judge said. The judge directed Jindal to furnish a fixed deposit of Rs 1 crore and not to tamper with any evidence or try to influence any witness in any manner. Jindal had moved the application seeking court's permission to go to the two countries in connection with his business interests. Delhi court gives 'no-objection' for renewal of Naveen Jindal's passport

A Delhi court has given its 'no-objection' for the renewal of the passport of Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal, accused 'in a coal scam case. Special Judge Arun Bharadwaj, meanwhile, said that the order was only for no-objection, and not any direction to any authority for the renewal of the passport of Jindal. Having considered various judgments relied upon by the counsel for the applicant, this court deems it appropriate to grant no objection of this court for the renewal of passport of the accused with validity for its full term of ten years, the judge said in an order passed on September 2.
