The new national educational policy (NEP) is the philosophical document of the 21st century that aims to assimilate ancient with the modern, said Union Minister for Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday. Addressing the 20th convocation of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) here, he said the Union government aims to place the nation among the developed nations by 2047 when the country celebrates 100 years of Independence from British rule. He said the country would play a key role in future development of humanity and restore its glory as the Vishwa Guru.' He wanted the NITK to create a full-fledged sustainable Energy Department to turn the technology institute into a leading lighthouse in energy transition of the country within a decade. No plans to merge NEET, JEE with CUET for next 2 years: Dharmendra Pradhan

There are no plans to merge engineering entrance exam JEE and medical entrance exam NEET with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), Union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan said. University Grants Commission Chairman Jagadesh Kumar had last month said in future JEE and NEET will be merged with the CUET. "Merger of NEET, JEE and CUET is currently a concept, a thought and the government has not yet decided upon it in principle," Pradhan said while interacting with students, mostly hailing from his home state Odisha, of Allen Career Institute in here during his one day visit to the city on Tuesday. There is no proposal of merging NEET, JEE with CUET and it will take at least two years to decide upon the concept of a merger of the three exams and to conduct a combined test, Pradhan said while asking the students not to be afraid. Lauding the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said it reflects the aspirations of citizens and a time will come when people from all over the world will seek admission in Indian institutions in large numbers. He said the earlier policy was designed to make a person a successful professional, but the NEP 2020 will not only make a student a great human being, but also transform India into a great nation. Terming the National Education Policy (NEP) a knowledge document, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that it aims to make education accessible to everyone. Speaking at a session by industry body ASSOCHAM here on Thursday, Pradhan said the Centre is looking to increase enrollment of students at the primary level and ensure they continue their education. "The NEP 2020 is the future of India's education from primary to higher education levels. It aims at promoting all-round development of an individual. It aims to make education accessible to everyone," he said. India has become the epicentre of a knowledge-based economy, he said. "India's academic fraternities have a big role to play in ensuring a rightful place for India to become a global leader. The National Education Policy 2020 is a path towards it," Pradhan said. Centre working with West Bengal to implement NEP in state: Pradhan

The Centre is working with the West Bengal government to implement the New Education Policy (NEP) in the state, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said. Speaking to reporters, Pradhan said the Centre and the state government were holding regular talks and if there is any gap, they are ironing those out. "I am not sure for what reason one will be against the NEP 2020. It is employment-generating, modern and contemporary. In the last two years, we got great feedback from all stakeholders," he said on Saturday, when asked about certain issues raised by the West Bengal government. The state government recently formed a 10-member committee to examine NEP, and assess the need for a state-level policy on education. State Education Minister Bratya Basu had said that the committee will scrutinise various aspects of the policy.
