IND vs NZ 1st Test Day 3 Highlights: Virat Kohli, who completed his 9,000 Test runs today, became Glenn Phillips' victim on the final ball of the day
In reply, New Zealand started strong, with skipper Tom Latham (15) and opener Devon Conway (91) adding 67 runs for the first wicket before the former was trapped in front of the wicket by Kuldeep
It's always special to return to the place where it all began and senior India batter KL Rahul is feeling the same as he takes guard one more time at the hallowed Chinnaswamy Stadium here for India's first Test against New Zealand beginning Wednesday. Rahul cut his teeth at the very same venue as a 11-year-old boy and he is now one of India's key batters. "It's always special for me to come back here, to your home ground, the place where you grew up and played all your cricket," Rahul said in a video posted by the BCCI on its social media handle. "The first match when I played here was when I was 11 and half years old. I am 32 now and so a lot has changed. But the feeling of an 11-year-old boy who came here first time, played a game, that feeling has not changed, I still remember it so many years later." Rahul is set to play his third Test here. He scored 90 and 51 as an opener in India's 75-run win against Australia in March 2017 and made 54 as No. 3 batter in the team's innings a
Online ticket sales for the third and final Test between India and New Zealand, scheduled to take place from November 1-5 at the Wankhede Stadium, will begin on Friday. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced the date of ticket sale after its apex council meeting here on Tuesday. India skipper Rohit Sharma on Tuesday vindicated Jasprit Bumrah's promotion as the vice-captain for the three-Test series against New Zealand, terming the lead pacer as an integral part of the leadership group who has a lot of "understanding" of the game. Bumrah's elevation to vice-captaincy for the Test series, beginning here on Wednesday, came as a bit of surprise as India did not have a deputy to Rohit in the recent series against Bangladesh. The decision has been viewed as a precursor to Bumrah stepping in as India's skipper during the tour to Australia. PTI had reported on October 10 that Rohit is set to miss at least one Test Down Under due to personal reasons. Look, Bumrah has played a lot of cricket. I've played a lot of cricket with him. He understands the game pretty well. He's got a good head on his shoulder. When you talk to him, he understands the game, Rohit told reporters during his pre-match press meet after rain hampered India's training session. Tactically, I can
Led by Tom Latham, New Zealand will be hoping to get their first away Test series win in three years. However, they are up against a formidable Indian side, who haven't lost at home since 2012.
Having been undefeated in Tests at home since 2012, India will go into the match with a lot of confidence. On the other hand, the Kiwis have not won an away Test series in 3 years.
IND vs NZ 1st Test Day 1 HIGHLIGHTS: The day's play has finally been called off due to heavy rain in Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
With heavy rains in the morning not allowing both sets of players to train just a day ahead of the 1st Test, the weather forecasts have predicted that rain could play spoilsport on Day 1 of the match.
Uncapped bowler Jacob Duffy has been named as his replacement and will fly out to the subcontinent for the 1st Test in Bengaluru.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, the torchbearers of transition, will have to be India's driving force in their quest to lord over an unsettled New Zealand in a three-Test series, beginning here with the first match here on Wednesday. The baton has not been completely passed, but Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are certainly running their last lap and these two young superstars will have to show that they can carry forward the legacy of the titans. The signs, so far, are bright. Since a productive series against England earlier this year, Gill is now more familiar and comfortable with the rigours of Test cricket. His last 10 innings contain three hundreds and two fifties, while Jaiswal's last eight outings in Test cricket feature a 214 and five fifties. Those numbers are not to be scoffed at. But at the same time, it is important for them to build on the foundation through this series against the Kiwis, a precursor to the much tougher journey to Australia next month. Gill seemed to
Rachin Ravindra will carry along with him that soothing home ground' feeling when the New Zealand top-order batter steps on to the field here on Wednesday for the first Test against India. After all, his familial roots are firmly entrenched in Bengaluru. His parents Ravi Krishnamurthy and Deepa hail from the city, while his grandparents T. Balakrishna Adiga, a noted educationist, and Poornima still stay here, and a cosy family get together ahead of the match is on cards too. It's something different about playing a Test match. You're here for five days and it's a tradition, you know, Test cricket's the pinnacle. I guess it makes it extra significant because of the family connection, said Ravindra. Ravi, his father, has come down from Wellington to watch his son playing Test cricket in a city where he spent his formative years and played club cricket. There'll be a bunch of them in the crowd and I know Dad will be here watching. So those moments, you know, you pinch yourself on the
Premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah was on Friday named vice-captain of India for the upcoming three-match home Test series against New Zealand, strongly indicating his possible elevation to the leadership role when the team travels to Australia from next month. The three-match series against the Kiwis will start on November 16 in Bengaluru, followed by the second Test in Pune from October 24 and third game in Mumbai from November 1. As reported by PTI on October 10, regular captain Rohit Sharma could skip one of the first two Test matches in Australia owing to personal reasons. The five-match Test series in Australia starts on November 22 in Perth and the second match will be held at Adelaide from December 6, and there is a possibility that Rohit could give either the first or the second game a miss. Adding strength to that thought is the fact that India did not name a vice-captain for the recent home series against Bangladesh, which they won 2-0. Bumrah has prior experience of leading
The winners of the two semifinals will face each other in the final of the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup on October 20
The place for the semifinal will be on the line when New Zealand and Pakistan take the field in Dubai
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be playing for their pride after becoming the first team to be eliminated from the tournament, following their loss to India in their third match earlier.
Rohit Sharma's men will go into the series with their morale high after a 2-0 Test series win against Bangladesh at home while the Kiwis endured a 2-0 loss away from home against Sri Lanka recently.
New Zealand's new Test captain Tom Latham feels the only way to challenge an almost invincible India in their own backyard is by playing fearless cricket. Latham has taken over the captaincy from Tim Southee ahead of the three-match Test series in India beginning on October 16 in Bengaluru. "It's an exciting challenging going over to India and once we can go over there, hopefully play with a bit of freedom, bit of no fear and try and take it to them. If we do that hopefully, it gives ourselves a good chance," said Latham ahead of the team's departure to India on Friday. While India have won their last 18 series at home, New Zealand come to India on the back of four successive series defeats in the World Test Championship, most recently against Sri Lanka. New Zealand have won only two Tests in India with their last one coming back in 1988. "In India we've seen teams that have done well out there in the past have been quite aggressive towards them, especially with the bat they've loo
