Syama Prasad Mookherjee Port (SMP), formerly known as Kolkata Port Trust, and NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, will form a joint working group to set up a green hydrogen and ammonia hub at the port, an official said on Sunday. The MoU between the two public sector entities was signed last week, aiming to explore opportunities for the production, storage, handling, and bunkering of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and its derivatives with the support of the port, the official said. As part of the National Hydrogen Mission, shipping and port operations will play a critical role in driving trade in green energy. Ports are therefore being developed to support the export requirements of green energy. State-owned power giant NTPC on Tuesday announced payment of Rs 2,908.99 crore final dividend for 2022-23. "This Final Dividend payment of Rs 2,908.99 crore constitutes 30 per cent of the paid-up equity share capital of NTPC Ltd," a company statement said. According to the statement, the total dividend disbursed for FY 2022-23 stands at an impressive Rs 7,030.08 crore, being 41 per cent of the profit after tax (PAT). This marks the 30th consecutive year in which the company has distributed dividends, underscoring its dedication to providing consistent returns to its investors, it added.
This would take the consolidated regulated equity base to Rs. 1.25 trillion by FY26 versus Rs. 94,180 crore in FY23
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has entered into an agreement with Nayara Energy to explore opportunities in the green hydrogen space. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between NGEL CEO Mohit Bhargava and Nayara Energy Head-Technical Amar Kumar on Monday in the presence of other senior officials of both sides, NTPC said in a statement. "NGEL and Nayara Energy have entered into an MoU today to explore opportunities in the green hydrogen and green energy space," it said. NTPC Green Energy Limited is a subsidiary of energy major NTPC. This collaboration is in line with NTPC's initiatives to develop hydrogen projects in India and aligns with the government's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) and V O Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) have joined hands to develop a green hydrogen hub at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. Both entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard on Friday, NTPC said in a statement. Green hydrogen and its derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol, will be produced at the hub to be built on the land provided by VOCPA. NTPC Group has a plan to build a renewable energy capacity of 60 GW by 2032 and is working on a pipeline of over 20 GW.

State-owned BHEL on Monday said it has bagged an order from NHPC for its 2,880 MW Dibang multipurpose project in Arunachal Pradesh. The order for the electro-mechanical (E&M) work for the project has been bagged against a stiff competition under international competitive bidding, BHEL said in a statement. It however did not share the order value. BHEL's scope in the contract includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the E&M package. Major equipment for the project will be manufactured at BHEL's plants in Bhopal, Bengaluru, Jhansi and Rudrapur while the execution activities on-site will be carried out by the company's power sector - eastern region division, Kolkata. BHEL is India's largest manufacturer of power generating equipment with an installed base of over 1,97,000 MW globally.
State-owned entities NTPC and Oil India have entered into an agreement to explore collaborations in the areas of renewable energy, production of green hydrogen and its derivatives. The collaboration is also to pursue geothermal and other decarbonisation initiatives, NTPC said in a statement. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh and Oil India CMD Ranjit Rath on Thursday. "The MoU is for exploring collaboration in the areas of renewable energy, green hydrogen and its derivatives, geothermal and other decarbonisation initiatives. Further, it shall also facilitate knowledge and experience sharing on the upcoming decarbonisation technologies like carbon sequestration," it said. NTPC is aiming to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2032 and become a major player in the green hydrogen technology and energy storage domain.
State-owned power giant NTPC has started a trial run of a hydrogen bus in Leh. Towards achieving carbon-neutral Ladakh, NTPC is setting up a hydrogen fuelling station, solar plant and providing five fuel cell buses for operation on intracity routes of Leh, a company statement said. The first hydrogen bus reached Leh on August 17 as part of a three-month-long process of field trials, roadworthiness tests and other statutory procedures. This will be India's first-ever deployment of hydrogen buses on public roads, it claimed. The first-of-its-kind Green Hydrogen Mobility Project at 11,562 ft is co-located with a dedicated solar plant of 1.7 MW for providing renewable power. The fuel cell buses are designed for operation in sub-zero temperatures in rarefied atmospheres, typical to such altitude locations, which is a unique feature of this project. State-owned power giant NTPC on Thursday inked a business transfer agreement (BTA) to hive off its mining business, comprising six coalfields, to its arm NTPC Mining Ltd. "NTPC Ltd and NTPC Mining Ltd (NML) have executed the BTA on August 17, 2023, in New Delhi. The BTA shall become effective upon completion of the conditions precedent mentioned in the BTA," a BSE filing stated. On July 29, 2023, the company informed the bourses about the approval of the Board of Directors of NTPC Ltd for hiving off its coal mining business, consisting of 6 coal mines, to its wholly-owned subsidiary NTPC Mining Ltd through a Business Transfer Agreement. The coal mining business, comprising 6 coal mines, and all related assets and liabilities are being hived-off from NTPC books to NML, it had said. State-owned NLC India and NTPC along with three private players have bagged coal blocks in the seventh round of auctions which concluded with the sale of all six mines put under the hammer, an official statement said on Friday. While NLC bagged North Dhadu (Western Part) coal block in Jharkhand with 434 million tonnes of coal reserves, NTPC won the North Dhadu (Eastern Part) coal block, which has 439 million tonnes (MT) of coal reserves, the Ministry of Coal said in a statement. Private players Hindalco Industries bagged the Meenakshi West block in Odisha, which has 950 MT of coal reserves. Bajrang Power and Ispat Ltd won the Pathora East and Pathora West coal blocks in Madhya Pradesh with 110.40 MT and 81.69 MT of coal reserves, respectively. Nilkanth Coal Mining also bagged Sherband coal block in Chhattisgarh which has a reserve of 90 MT. "With the successful auctioning of these six coal mines, the total number of coal mines auctioned under commercial auctions now stands at 92,"
NTPC, Hindalco Industries, Bajrang Power and Ispat bagged one mine each during the seventh round of coal auctions. NTPC Ltd bagged the North Dhadu (Eastern Part) coal block in Jharkhand, which has 439 Million Tonnes (MT) of coal reserves, the Ministry of Coal said in a statement on Wednesday. Hindalco Industries bagged the Meenakshi West block in Odisha, which has 950 MT of coal reserves and Bajrang Power and Ispat Ltd won the Pathora East Coal Block in Madhya Pradesh that has 110.40 MT of coal reserves. "Upon operationalisation, these coal mines will generate an annual revenue of Rs 450 crore calculated at PRC (Peak Rate Capacity) of these coal mines (excluding partially explored coal mines). The mines will attract capital investment of Rs 600 crore and will provide employment to 5,408 people," the ministry said.
NTPC on Monday said wholly-owned NTPC REL has received a letter of award (LoA) for a 550 megawatt (MW) solar project. The project is to be executed within a period of 18 months and will require a capital investment of Rs 2,800 crore, NTPC said in a statement. "NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) received the Letter of Award for 550 MW Solar Project at a tariff of Rs 2.56/kWh. The power will be utilised under a Government of India's scheme for flexibility in generation and scheduling of thermal power stations through bundling with RE capacity," it added. The statement did not provide further details of the project. With the allotment of this 550 MW capacity, NTPC REL will have to execute more than 2 GW RE capacity to fulfil the capacity won in TBCB (tariff-based competitive bidding) mode in Q1 2023 alone. As of date, NTPC Group has a 3.3 GW renewable energy (RE) operational capacity.
State-owned power giant NTPC Ltd on Monday announced that a 660-MW unit of its plant at Barh, on the outskirts of Patna, has started commercial generation, which would result in an additional 396 MW electricity supply to Bihar. In a statement issued here, the NTPC also said this has resulted in an increase in the total commercial generation capacity of the plant from 1,980 MW to 2,640 MW. Bihar's allocation from the facility has thus risen to 1,922 MW from 1,526 MW from Monday, while the total allocation from all NTPC plants in the state has gone up to 7,287 MW from 6,891 MW. The NTPC also disclosed that the unit, which started commercial generation on Monday, had successfully completed the mandatory 72-hour full-load trial-run operation on June 30. "The fifth unit of the Barh plant, which would be the last of Stage-I, will be completed next year", the company said.
