Domestic CV volumes may touch 1 mn units mark this financial year: Crisil

Domestic CV volumes are expected to touch 1 million units mark this fiscal, the pre-pandemic peak logged in FY19, driven by accelerating infrastructure execution, replacement demand and policy support from the PM-eBus Sewa scheme, ratings agency Crisil said on Wednesday. The sector's credit outlook remains stable, supported by strong liquidity and healthy cash flows, it said. The volume growth will be led by light commercial vehicles (LCVs), which are expected to account for around 62 per cent of total volume on account of rising penetration of e-commerce and warehousing. A pickup in freight-intensive sectors such as cement and mining will boost the overall demand, it said. Crisil said its analysis is based on four key CV players, which account for around 70 per cent of the sector volume. The commercial vehicle (CV) sector comprises two segments-- LCVs and M&HCV ( medium and heavy commercial vehicles) -- with buses classified under both the segments. The M&HCV volume, ...

US to need PVs to sound alarms if rear passengers don't fasten seat belts

Starting in September of 2027, all new passenger vehicles in the U.S. will have to sound a warning if rear-seat passengers don't buckle up. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday that it finalised the rule, which also requires enhanced warnings when front seat belts aren't fastened. The agency estimates that the new rule will save 50 lives per year and prevent 500 injuries when fully in effect, according to a statement. The new rule will apply to passenger cars, trucks, buses except for school buses, and multipurpose vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds. Before the rule, seat belt warnings were required only for the driver's seat. Under the new rule, outboard front-seat passengers also must get a warning if they don't fasten their belts. Front-centre seats will not get a warning because NHTSA found that it wouldn't be cost effective. The agency said most vehicles already have warnings for the outboard passenger seats. The rule also lengthens the duration o

Tata Motors, Kia India to hike passenger vehicle prices from Jan 2025

Tata Motors and Kia India on Monday announced plans to hike vehicle prices from January to offset the impact of rising input costs. Tata Motors said it will hike the price of its passenger vehicle portfolio, including electric vehicles, by up to 3 per cent from January next year. The price hike is being undertaken to partially offset the rise in input costs and inflation, the Mumbai-based auto major said in a statement. "Effective January 2025, the price increase will vary depending on model and variant," it added. Tata Motors sells a range of passenger vehicle models ranging from Tiago hatchback to SUVs Harrier and Safari. Kia India, which sells models like Seltos and Sonet, said it will increase prices of its entire model range by 2 per cent from January. The price hike, effective from January 1, 2025, is primarily due to rising commodity prices and escalating supply chain-related costs, the automaker said in a statement. Icra cuts PV factory dispatch outlook down to 0-2% on high inventory level

Rating agency Icra on Monday revised downwards the outlook for passenger vehicle factory dispatches to showrooms in the current fiscal on acccount of high inventory levels. Despite good retail sales, a year-on-year growth of 6 per cent in April-October FY2025 partially on account of an early festive season, the high inventory levels for the industry curtailed wholesale volume growth, as per a report on the domestic automotive industry by the domestic ratings agency. "ICRA has thus revised the outlook for the wholesale volume growth for the industry in FY2025 downwards to 0-2 per cent," it added. The rating agency had earlier pegged PV wholesale growth at 3-6 per cent for 2024-25 fiscal. Retail sales of passenger vehicles during the festive season grew at a moderate pace of 6 per cent year-on-year to 6.5 lakh units, aided by attractive discounts and competitive financing rates. ICRA also revised the outlook for the wholesale volume growth for the industry to 11-14 per cent in FY202
