When Kohli's wicket fell, stadium felt quiet like library: Pat Cummins

Australian captain Pat Cummins couldn't believe his ears when he found a near 100,000 people at Narendra Modi Stadium go pin-drop silence after Virat Kohli's dismissal giving the vibe of a "quiet library" during the World Cup final against India. Australia won their sixth title beating India by six wickets but many believe that Cummins getting India's No. 1 batter played on, became the turning point of the match. "We're in a huddle after the wicket of Kohli in the final & (Steve) Smith says,'Boys, listen to the crowd." And we just took a moment of pause, and it was as quiet as a library, 100,000-plus Indians there & it was so quiet. I'll savour that moment for a long time," Cummins told 'The Age' during an interaction. Late, he spoke to reporters and said that to hold the Trophy, it took a lot out of him and his team. "To hold one trophy takes a lot. But, to hold them across formats really shows our amazing coaching group and also the squad of players," Cummins told reporters .

World Cup 2023 Final: Aussie captain Cummins can't wait to face India

A nerve-wracking semifinal win under their belt, Australia cannot wait for the World Cup summit clash against India in Ahmedabad on Sunday, said captain Pat Cummins. Australia beat South Africa by three wickets in the second semifinal on Thursday to book a final berth against India at the 1.3-lakh capacity stadium in Ahmedabad. India had beaten New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semifinal in Mumbai on Wednesday. "Easier than sitting in the dugout. Nerve-wracking couple of hours but great effort and a great game," Cummins said at the post-match presentation. Asked about taking on India in the final with a massive crowd supporting the hosts, he said, "The stadium is going to be packed, pretty one-sided but got to embrace it. "The good thing is a few of us have been there for finals before. The 2015 World Cup was a career highlight, so to be out there in a final in India, can't wait." Cummins said he knew the pitch would spin later in the match. "We thought it would spin quite a

World Cup 2023:Pat Cummins feels Australia not weighed down by history

They know what it takes to win the 50-over World Cup, having won five of them in 12 editions, but Australia skipper Pat Cummins said they are never "weighed down" by history and will stick to basics against South Africa in the semi-final here on Thursday. The Proteas, on the other hand, are known as the 'perennial chokers' in the cricket fraternity. "Yeah, I don't think it counts for too much. You know, obviously you start from scratch every time you play," Cummins said on the eve of their match. "They're a team we've played quite a lot and know quite well. But as you said, this week it's probably going to be quite different to say the South African series that we just played against them a couple of months ago. "We've got a lot of guys that have been in this situation before that have won one day World Cup, T20 World Cup, various other tournaments in big moments. So, I think that really helps," he said. Having started off with two losses, Australia are peaking at the right time,

World Cup 2023: Cummins' 'I was there' moment as Maxwell created history

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has no hesitation in rating Glenn Maxwell's magnificent double hundred against Afghanistan as the greatest knock in ODI history, which has allowed everyone to enjoy their very own "I was there" moment. Maxwell scored an unbeaten 201 off 128 balls with the help of 10 sixes and 21 boundaries to pull Australia from the rut at 91 for 7 and added 202 runs with his skipper to finish the match with more than three overs to spare. "I mean (all the innings) I've ever seen. it's probably the greatest ODI innings ever. We're just chatting about it, all the players and we've decided it's one of those days where you just go, 'I was there in the stadium the day Glenn Maxwell chased down that total by himself'," Cummins commented on Maxwell's knock that single-handedly took Australia to semi-final. The Australia captain hoped that Maxwell will be able to recover in time to play their last league game against Bangladesh, in Pune on November 11. "I'm sure, he (Maxwell

World Cup 2023: Pat Cummins lauds Glenn Maxwell for going for the win

When Australian skipper Pat Cummins walked at 91 for 7 in a chase of 292 against Afghanistan, all he thought was of somehow getting to 200 so that the net run-rate remains in decent zone before the final World Cup game against Bangladesh. But Glenn Maxwell had other ideas as the Australian skipper watched the "greatest ODI innings" unfold in-front of his eyes with his partner hitting an unbelievable 201 not out off 128 balls to take his team to the semi-final of the global event. "When I went out there, I thought if we can somehow scratch the 200, our net run rate should be pretty good for the semi-final. When Maxi got his 100, I kind of thought, wow, we are within 120 or something. And then I still thought, no way," Cummins was honest enough to admit that he thought winning was out of question. "I think Maxi might be a bit different. I think he is always plotting his way to a win. I think even 200 runs out, he was kind of mapping out how he was going to do it. I was just trying to
