BJP MLA clarifies his 'Muslims stealing electricity' remark

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sanjay Gupta on Friday issued clarification hours after his 'Muslims are stealing electricity' statement drew huge flak.The MP from Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi clarified that the electricity department should conduct raids at all houses without any discrimination on the ground of religion.Earlier, an audio of the BJP legislator surfaced on media, where he can be heard saying that as many as 90 percent Muslims indulge in electricity theft and that appropriate action against them needs to be initiated.After facing a huge backlash, the BJP leader said that whatever he said was based on latest data provided to him."What I said to officials was that it's good that you go to houses of Hindus, but you should also go to houses of Muslims. Andhra CM on virtual inspection spree

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday inspected the condition at Prakasam Barrage and other ghats on Krishna river where water accumulates in large amount.Prakasam Barrage, stretched across the Krishna river, connects Krishna and Guntur districts.The Chief Minister also expressed dissatisfaction over negligence of officials and warned them to clear the weed within four days.Naidu further said that he will continue similar virtual inspections of all irrigation canals in the state using drone cameras and warned the officials to be alert or be ready to face stern action.Later in the day, Naidu continued his virtual inspection on pension distribution system in the state.

115 J-K prisoners get Eidi, to be released for celebration

Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the release of 115 prisoners in view of Eid ul-Fitr.The prisoners will be released from various jails of the hilly state.Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had directed the release of all those prisoners found not involved in serious crimes so that they can celebrate Eid with their families.Eid ul-Fitr, an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide, marking the end of fasting month of Ramzan.The festival is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of Islamic lunar calendar.The festival is marked with feasts and the meeting of families, relatives, and friends, where they exchange greetings and gifts with each other.India will celebrate the festival on June 16.

TN Guv, CM, Stalin extend Ramzan greetings

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarlal Purohit, Chief Minister K Palaniswami, DMK leader M K Stalin and a host of others today greeted people on the eve of Ramzan. Eid celebrated in Kerala

Muslims in Kerala today celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the culmination of the holy fasting month of Ramzan. While the festival would be celebrated in other parts of the country tomorrow, Eid was observed in the southern state today as the moon was sighted in Kozhikode district last evening. Day after return from US, Parrikar resumes official work

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today resumed work at his office in the state secretariat, a day after returning from the US, where he underwent treatment for a pancreatic ailment for three months. The chief minister started his day with a visit to the Devki Krishna temple at Khandola village in North Goa, 15 kms away from Panaji, to seek blessings of the deity, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said. Devki Krishna is the family deity of Parrikar. The chief minister then drove back to Panaji, where he visited the Mahalaxmi temple. Thereafter, he went to his office in the state secretariat at Porvorim on the outskirts of Panaji, where he chaired a meeting of senior bureaucrats and police officers to take stock of the law and order situation in Goa.
