Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's statue was unveiled at his home ground Wankhede Stadium by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde at a grand ceremony here on Wednesday. Tendulkar was accompanied by his wife Anjali and daughter Sara. The dignitaries present on the occasion were former BCCI and ICC chief Sharad Pawar, incumbent BCCI secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Ashish Shelar, vice-president Rajiv Shukla and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Amol Kale among others. "It is indeed a special moment for me. It was around February when Mr Shelar and Mr Kale called me on the behalf of the MCA, they said we are having this thought of having your statue inside the stadium. I was extremely delighted, to be honest. I did not know how to react," Tendulkar said. "I am truly humbled when I stand here. I go to the ground, there are thousands of images that come to my head and thoughts, so many incredible memories. It is truly an honour to walk on this turf which has given me everything
A life-size statue of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will be inaugurated on Wednesday on the eve of the World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium here. It was revealed earlier this year that the statue of Tendulkar, who turned 50 in April, would be installed inside the stadium and finishing touches to the same were being given here on Tuesday. The statue depicting the legendary batter in motion of playing a stroke is placed next to the Sachin Tendulkar stand. The inauguration ceremony of Tendulkar's statue will be attended by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, the legendary Tendulkar, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Ashish Shelar along with officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), president Amol Kale, secretary Ajinkya Naik and other members of the apex council. The statue has been made by Pramod Kamble, a painter-sculptor from Ahmednagar in the state. Tendulkar's statue, at his homeground ..
On the verge of equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record number of ODI centuries, star India batter Virat Kohli on Tuesday said he had never thought of accumulating so many runs and hundreds when he began his career. Kohli has been in terrific form with the bat in the ongoing ODI World Cup with one century and three half centuries in six matches. He scored 103 not out against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19 for his 48th ODI hundred, one short of Tendulkar's world record. He made 95 against New Zealand in Dharamsala on October 22, five runs short of matching Tendulkar's record 49 tons in ODI cricket. If we talk about cricket, I had never thought of achieving all, as in where my career is and how god has blessed me (with) such a career span and performances," Kohli told Star Sports. "I had always dreamt I'd do this, but I had never thought things would pan out this way exactly. Nobody can plan these things, the way your journey is going, and the way things unfold in front of you." "I ha

Sachin Tendulkar was a constant presence next to Mahendra Singh Dhoni at slips during Test matches. It seems Tendulkar and Dhoni are destined to stand adjacent to each other, just like they did on the field, in retirement too. Call it a quirky coincidence, two sports goods and apparel shops named after two of India's biggest sporting icons stand next to each other on the Wallajah Road, opposite the Chepauk. You can't actually miss 'Sachin Sports' which opened back in 1998 and 'Dhoni Sports' which was born in 2016 while walking towards the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The reverence for 'God' is universal but Chennai's love for 'Thala' (elder brother) is deeply personal. "Obviously, Dhoni is huge in Chennai but if your products aren't good enough you won't be able to attract customers. We don't just look at selling sports stuff on match days but more on non-match days when people might flock in," said young owner Syed Naseeruddin Shahbaz. Shahbaz was an accomplished national level hocke

Current and former India cricketers on Wednesday celebrated the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3's lunar module on the moon's surface, hailing the feat as "historic" and "extraordinary". "Witnessing History from Dublin! The moment India's Vikram Lander touched down successfully on the Moon's South Pole," the BCCI wrote on X, formerly Twitter. He reminded the gathering that he had said that in his second innings, he will continue to bat for India. Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey said the "pitch" on which EC plays to encourage voters to come out and exercise their franchise is "tough". But he expressed confidence that Tendulkar
