L&T Semicon expects chip production to start in 2 yrs; to set up unit later

Fabless chip company L&T Semiconductor Technologies expects manufacturing of semiconductor products designed by it to start in the next two years, a top company official said. While speaking to PTI, L&T Semiconductor Technologies CEO Sandeep Kumar said the company will set up its chip manufacturing plants after achieving a threshold revenue in the range of USD 50 million to USD 1 billion for different semiconductor technologies. The company is building teams to handle around 15 different products in parallel, and it is already halfway on that journey, he added. "We will have the full force ready in the next six months. By the end of this year, we will be able to handle 15 parallel product designs. Since we have half the team, roughly six product designs have already started. Those designs will launch sometime by the end of next year, and production will start in two years from today," Kumar said. Foxconn-backed automotive technology company SiliconAuto has set up its research and development centre in Bengaluru which will focus on semiconductor product design and system-on-chip development for the automotive sector. SiliconAuto is a joint venture between the Netherlands-based Stellantis NV and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn). "This new centre embodies SiliconAuto's commitment to innovation and excellence in the automotive industry. SEMI, peer IESA join hands to boost semiconductor ecosystem in India

Global semiconductor body SEMI and its peer IESA have announced a strategic agreement to boost the industry ecosystem in India, a joint statement said. As part of the agreement, the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) will become part of the SEMI-- the organiser of Semicon events including Semicon India. "This partnership will help SEMI grow a strong presence in this critical emerging market and enable both organisations to identify tangible strategies that leverage our combined strengths to enhance supply chain resilience," Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI said. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of Semicon India 2024, the statement said on Wednesday.
