Tata's fab investment to be big, will move for Cabinet approval soon: Govt

The Tata Group's investment for the fab manufacturing in Gujarat will be "very big" and a Cabinet note seeking approvals for the project will be moved "very soon", Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday. Speaking at the biennial Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit here, Vaishnaw said the Tatas' proposed investment is important because it will be serving a wider spectrum of opportunities, right from fab to OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test). Vaishnaw said the fab proposed in Dhooera will be a semiconductor chips manufacturing factory, which will be a "very big investment". "Already there is a lot of good progress on it. Very soon, we will take it to the Cabinet and construction will begin after that," Vaishnaw told reporters. The Union Cabinet will have to grant approval for the project, he added. 3 MoUs in semiconductor sector on day 2 of Vibrant Gujarat Summit

Three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed in the semiconductor sector on the second day of the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit here on Thursday, one of them with South Korean firm Simmtech which committed an investment of Rs 1,250 crore in Gujarat for printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing, an official said. The other two pacts were business-to-business collaborations involving four different companies, including corporate giants like ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel, Micron Technology and Cisco, he said. A slew of other agreements in various sectors were also finalised on the second day of the three-day summit. Indian manufacturing unit to be operational by early 2025, says Micron CEO

Global memory and data storage major Micron Technology on Thursday said the first phase of its plant in Gujarat's Sanand will become operational in early 2025. It has already started construction of the plant by roping Tata Projects, and the hiring process has also begun, the US-based company's president and chief executive Sanjay Mehrotra said at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit here. "The first phase, which will include 5,00,000 square feet of plant clean room space, will become operational in early 2025," he said. The investment was first announced during the US visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2023 and construction had begun in September. Micron has committed to invest over USD 800 million in the plant of the over USD 2.75 billion cost. The "clean room" typically hosts an Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) plant which operates in near-zero dust and vibration environment. Foxconn invests fresh capital of around Rs 461 crore in Bengaluru unit

Taiwanese electronics manufacturing services major Foxconn has infused USD 55.29 million (about Rs 461 crore) in Bengaluru-based Foxconn Precision Engineering Private Limited, according to a regulatory filing. The company has made the investment through its Singapore-based subsidiary Foxconn Singapore Pte Limited. Foxconn Singapore has acquired about 46,08,76,736 shares at Rs 10 each, amounting to around USD 55.29 million (Rs 460.87 crore), according to the filing. Foxconn Precision Engineering was incorporated around six months ago. In July, Foxconn proposed to set up a Rs 8,800-crore supplementary plant to that of its unit at the Devanahalli Information Technology Investment Region in Karnataka. It has also bought 300 acres at Devanahalli. According to the announcement made earlier by the Karnataka government, Foxconn is expected to create employment for about 50,000 people in the first phase at Devanahalli.
