Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn's decision to pull out of Vedanta joint venture has no impact on India's semiconductor fabrication plant goal, minister of state for electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Monday. Foxconn has decided to pull out of the semiconductor joint venture with Indian conglomerate Vedanta. "This decision of Foxconn to withdraw from its JV wth Vedanta has no impact on India's Semiconductor Fab goals. None," Chandrasekhar tweeted. Vedanta Foxconn JV had announced the setting up of India's first electronic chip manufacturing unit in Gujarat with an investment of around USD 1.5 lakh crore. As Foxconn withdraws, Vedanta says other partners lined for chip plant

After withdrawal of Taiwanese electronic contract manufacturer Foxconn from its chip joint venture, Vedanta on Monday asserted that it is fully committed to its semiconductor project and has lined up other partners to set up India's first foundry. Vedanta said that it has redoubled efforts to fulfil the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for semiconductors and affirmed that India remains pivotal in repositioning global semiconductor supply chains. "Vedanta reiterates that it is fully committed to its semiconductor fab project and we have lined up other partners to set up India's first foundry. We will continue to grow our Semiconductor team, and we have the license for production-grade technology for 40 nm from a prominent Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM)," Vedanta said in a statement. Vedanta to acquire semiconductor, display biz from Twin Star Technologies

Anil Agarwal-led Volcan Investments has decided to rejig semiconductor business segment by bringing it under subsidiary Twin Star Technologies Limited, the group firm Vedanta said on Friday. Under the new structure, Twin Star Technologies (TSTL), which is a sister concern of Vedanta Ltd, will become its subsidiary and Vendanta's semiconductor and display business will be brought under TSTL. "The acquisition will be effected by way of a share transfer at face value of Twin Star Technologies Limited's (TSTL) Semiconductor and Display SPVs. TSTL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Volcan Investments Limited, the ultimate holding company of Vedanta Limited," Vedanta said in a statement. UK-based firm plans to set up semiconductor fabrication unit in Odisha

A UK-based company is planning to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit in Odisha's Ganjam district with an investment of Rs 30,000 crore in the first phase, officials said. The SRAM & MRAM Technologies and Projects India Pvt Limited, the Indian unit of UK-based SRAM & MRAM Group, had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government on March 26 to set up the semiconductor unit in the state. After visiting some sites near Chhatrapur in the district, its Indian company officials headed by its chairman Guruji Kumaran Swami held a meeting with the district administration at Chhatrapur on Thursday. Ganjam Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida has assured the investors all facilities for setting up the unit. "We have visited some sites, including the industrial park of Tata and some private lands for the establishment of the proposed semiconductor unit. The big-ticket announcements by players including Micron, Applied Materials, and Lam Research during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's US visit will create an estimated 80,000 jobs, and underscore the resolve of the two countries to shape the future of technology, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Friday. First Made-in-India semiconductor chips to come by Dec 2024: Vaishnaw

First Made-in-India chips are expected to be rolled out by December 2024, Union Minister for Communications and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday. The minister said 4-5 semiconductor plants are expected to be set up in the country within a year. "First Made-in-India chip will be out by December 2024," Vaishnaw said while briefing media following a joint statement issued by US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the US. He said that land allocation, factory design work and tax compliance related agreement for the Micron semiconductor plant to be set up in Gujarat has been completed.
