Detroit police search for gunman in fatal 'random' shootings that injured 4

Four people were shot, three fatally, by a man who appeared to be firing at people randomly over a roughly 2 1/2-hour period Sunday morning in Detroit, police said. Police arrested the unidentified suspect Sunday evening after and hourslong manhunt with help from the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Detroit Police Chief James White said tips led officers to the suspect, but did not release further information. Thank you to the hard working men and women of the DPD that put themselves in harm's way each day. White said police traced all four shootings to one firearm and believe there is one shooter. He said investigators don't believe there was any connection between the victims, noting one person was walking a dog and another waiting for a bus when they were shot. Police constable, 3 others reported dead in Arizona apartment shooting

Four people were killed, including a local law enforcement official, in a shooting Thursday at an apartment complex in southern Arizona, officials said. Police in Tucson identified one of the victims as Pima County Constable Deborah Martinez-Garibay and another as a employee of the apartment complex, KVOA-TV reported. Martinez-Garibay was serving an eviction notice at the complex at the time of the shooting, but additional details were still unknown, KGUN-TV reported. Pima County Board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bronson extended sympathies on behalf of of the county to Martinez-Garibay's family, friends and colleagues. I am heartbroken at this terrible tragedy and I will keep Constable Martinez and all who knew and loved her in my thoughts, she said in a statement.

Sweden: Two wounded in shopping centre shooting; suspect arrested

Swedish police say two people have been wounded in a shooting at a shopping centre in the southern city of Malmo. A suspected was arrested after the shooting Friday afternoon at the Emporia shopping center, which police said appeared to be gang-related. Police are on site with big resources to map the incident by interviewing witnesses and going through material from surveillance cameras. The immediate danger to the public appears to be over, Malmo police said. Shootings by criminal gangs have become a growing problem in Sweden in recent decades, including in Malmo, the country's third-biggest city. Gang violence is among the main campaign issues ahead of Sweden's national election on Sept. 11. Last month a gunman opened fire inside a shopping mall across the Oresund Strait in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. Three people were killed and four wounded. Police said the suspect in that shooting, a 22-year-old Dane, apparently selected his victims at random.
