Skill development is primary focus under Swayampurna Goa 2.0: CM Sawant

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said skill development is one of the primary focus areas under the state government's Swayampurna Goa 2.0 initiative. Speaking at the launch of a booklet by the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the chief minister said the state government has been undertaking various programmes to boost employability of Goan youth in all sectors. The state government's Shiksha Sangam programme will enhance the scope of skilling, upskilling and reskilling, he said, expressing hope that the youth of the state will benefit from the programme. Sawant further said the government has undertaken an apprenticeship programme in collaboration with industry and educational institutions to provide on-field experience and skill development to youngsters. Delhi govt to introduce skill development centres for differently-abled

The Delhi government will upskill differently-abled people by providing them with the benefit of skill development centres, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday. Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand held a review meeting with the officials of his department and directed them to take appropriate steps towards skilling differently-abled people. Anand announced that soon such people will be trained through a skill development programme that will enable them to acquire skills and knowledge necessary for better employment opportunities. "This initiative is a step towards fulfilling the government's commitment to creating equal opportunities for all, including the differently-abled," he said. The Delhi government will also organise awareness camps in all districts where differently-abled people will be informed about government schemes, facilities and skill development programmes.

Centre to get industry partners under SAMARTH scheme for skill development

The government plans to rope in more industry partners to increase the pace of training under its flagship SAMARTH scheme for skill development in the textile sector, a senior official said on Friday. The government aims to make the country's textile sector worth USD 250 billion by 2030 from USD 150-155 billion at present. "To have this kind of growth, it is extremely important that we also have a skilled manpower available," Textile Secretary Rachna Shah said. Addressing a press conference here, she said that more than 85 per cent of the 1.5 lakh beneficiaries trained so far under the scheme are women. Over 70 per cent of the beneficiaries trained in organised sector courses have been provided placement, she added. "Out of the skilling target of 3.47 lakh beneficiaries allocated so far, 1.5 lakh beneficiaries have been provided training," she said. India will soon be the global skills hub, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Tuesday, underlining the importance of investment in education and skill development to ensure people have the knowledge and required capabilities to capture opportunities in 21st century. Around 80,000 youngsters from across Jammu and Kashmir will be skilled in different fields, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor's advisor Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar said on Sunday. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a mega job fair organised by the Labour and Employment Department here, Bhatnagar said the administration is encouraging self-employment as several schemes in different sectors have been initiated to create employability avenues for the youth. "Under the Back to Village (B2V) and My Town My Pride (MTMP) programme, the administration has identified 80,000 youth from all districts who will be skilled in different fields, the advisor said. About 11 mn people trained, 2.14 mn placed under PMKVY 2.0: Economic Survey

About 1.1 crore persons have been trained and 21.4 lakh placed under the second phase of the government's flagship skilling scheme PMKVY, said the Economic Survey 2022-23 tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. With an aim to make India a skill capital of the world and improve mobility of skilled manpower, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) International has been set up, which aims to create a network of institutions across India, said the survey. This network of institutions will be called the Skill India International (SII) Network. It shall be created through the empanelment of state-of-the-art government and private institutions, it added. "Between FY17 and FY23 (as of 5 January 2023), under PMKVY 2.0 about 1.1 crore persons have trained: 83 per cent certified and about 21.4 lakh placed. Under PMKVY 3.0, during FY21 to FY23 (as on 5 January 2023) 7.4 lakh persons have been trained, 66 per cent certified and 41,437 placed," the Survey stated. The Survey also highlighted

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday called for creating greater synergy among skill development schemes of all ministries, further aligning skill development efforts and fast-tracking implementation to create impact-at-scale.
