Universal healthcare scheme may be rolled out in Chhattisgarh: Health Minister TS Singh Deo
The Chhattisgarh government is expected to soon roll out its Universal Healthcare Scheme as an alternative for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY), better known as Ayushman Bharat, the central government's flagship health insurance scheme, state health minister TS Singh Deo said.Speaking of state government's Universal Health Scheme (UHS), the senior Congress leader and the Chhattisgarh health minister on Thursday told ANI: "Health services should be the right of citizens like the Right to Information, Right to Work, Right to Food. Indian pleads guilty to marriage and visa fraud
An Indian national residing in Florida on Thursday pleaded guilty to charges of running a fake marriage racket through which he helped illegal immigrants, mostly Indians, to get married to US citizens, thus facilitating their stay in the country. The man identified as 47-year-old Ravi Babu Kolla, who was residing in Florida's Panama city, has been detained. His Sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 22 at the US Courthouse in Tallahassee. His co-conspirator Krystal Cloud, 40, was sentenced to two years of imprisonment for marriage and visa fraud conspiracy after he pleaded guilty on December 28, 2018. She is a US citizen. Between February 2017 and August 2018, Kolla operated an immigration marriage fraud business in Bay County that recruited US citizens to marry Indian foreign nationals to gain immigration benefits, prosecutors said. Polish church admits clergy abused hundreds of children
Poland's powerful Catholic church on Thursday published a report admitting that nearly 400 of its clergy had sexually abused children and minors over the last three decades, reflecting findings published last month by a charity focused on abuse in the church. The Polish Bishops' Conference said in its report that it found 382 clergy sexually abused a total of 624 victims, including 198 under 15 years of age and 184 adolescents between the ages of 15 and 18. The statistical report which covers the period between 1990 and 2018, did not include the names of perpetrators. 'Racial attack' on South Africa TV host sparks outrage online
An alleged racially-motivated attack by a group of white people who beat up a black South African TV presenter trying to help them after a road accident has sparked outrage on social media. The incident occurred last week when Samora Mangesi, who presents a lifestyle show for the South African Broadcasting Corporation, said he and some friends pulled over to help after a car overturned on a road in west Johannesburg. "On Friday night I was the victim of a racially motivated attack," the 26-year-old wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, sharing pictures of his injuries. "They called my friends and I monkeys. When we engaged them on why we were being called such, they beat me up until I was unconscious." The tweet sparked fury among his followers, who shared the post more than 3,700 times. "They kicked me on the ground after one of them had hit me on the back of the head," wrote Mangesi who sustained cuts, bruises and grazes on his face and body. Congress president Rahul Gandhi will take part in a national convention on health organised by an NGO here on Friday, a party leader said. Goel receives call about deletion of his name from electoral roll, moves CEO
Union minister Vijay Goel Thursday claimed he received a phone call telling him the BJP got his name deleted from electoral rolls, and moved the Chief Electoral Office with a complaint against the Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP has been alleging that people are receiving phone calls on behalf of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party telling them that their names were deleted from electoral rolls but they need not worry as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal got them added back. Health Ministry on Thursday stated that it is taking stock of the public health measures for controlling West Nile Virus in Kerala.Union Health Minister JP Nadda is closely monitoring the situation and has spoken to the Health Minister of Kerala in this regard, said officials. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has also been alerted and a close watch is being maintained at the Central and state level.West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne disease. Debt-ridden policeman hangs self, blames seniors for act
A debt-ridden policeman allegedly hanged himself to death at his house in Amravati district of Maharashtra, apparently as he did not get salary for two months and was unable to send money to his son studying in Pune, police said on Thursday. Assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Ramsingh Gulabsingh Chavan, 56, committed suicide on Monday in Chaparashipura locality in Amravati city, an official said. Police recovered a suicide note later, in which Chavan has blamed Amravati police commissioner and deputy police commissioner for the drastic step. "In the note, he also asked his family members not to perform the last rites until an offence is registered against the officers," he said. Chavan, who served in the police force for at least 35 years, was posted at Kotvali police station, he said.
