68% Indians feel job market has improved in 5 years
Nearly 68 per cent working professionals from industries like IT/ITES, healthcare and pharma, consumer retail, BFSI and professional services sectors feel that the job market has improved significantly over the last five years, a new survey said on Tuesday.
'Tippler' found hanging in police station
A 27-year old man, taken into police custody near here based on a complaint from his family, was found hanging in the police station Tuesday morning, police said. Nawas was taken into custody on Monday evening. In his complaint, Nawas's brother said Nawas was behaving violently at home after consuming liquor. He was found hanging from the window grill of the toilet at the station. The incident occurred just ahead of his being taken to court. Taking serious note of the incident, state police chief Loknath Behera directed the Ernakulam range IG to initiate stern action against the police officials in connection with the alleged custodial death. In line with the guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission and the Supreme Court, a magisterial-level investigation into the custodial death would be conducted, the state police chief said.
NCW directs Rajasthan DGP to ensure swift probe in the Bikaner gangrape case
The National Commission for Women (NCW) Tuesday asked the Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan to ensure a swift and speedy probe into the reported gang rape of a woman in Bikaner. A married woman, who had gone out to collect firewood was allegedly sexually assaulted by three persons at an isolated place, police had said on Sunday. The alleged incident took place on May 15. The woman reached the police station along with her husband in the wee hours of May 18 to lodge a complaint. NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma in a letter to Rajasthan DGP Kapil Garg said, "The NCW is deeply disturbed by the media report captioned 'Married Woman gang-raped by three in Rajasthan's Bikaner on May 20". Sharma said NCW is seriously concerned about the recent rise in heinous crimes targeted against women in Rajasthan despite the enactment of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 2013. Protests in Bengal's Kankinara disrupt train services
Train services in the Sealdah-Naihati division of Eastern Railway (ER) were disrupted for about three hours ( 8.43 a.m. to 12:04 p.m.) on Tuesday as residents squatted on tracks near Kankinara station, protesting against clashes in the North 24 Parganas district, an official said.

The first of its kind marriage between a man and a transgender woman was registered at the district registrar office in Thoothukudi.B Arun Kumar (22), got married to 20-year-old transwoman P Srija at Arulmighu Shangara Rameswara Temple in October 2018.The couple was forced to file a writ petition in the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court after the district registrar office denied to register the marriage.On April 22, the Madurai bench ordered the district registrar to register the marriage between the man and transwoman couple.Following which the registrar's office had to issue the marriage certificate on Monday, May 20.The groom, Arun, is working as a contract labourer in Indian Railways while Srija is pursuing her second year BA (English) from a private college in Thoothukudi.
J-K BJP bats for grant of reserved seats to people displaced from PoK
The Jammu and Kashmir BJP unit Tuesday batted strongly for grant of seats reserved in the state assembly to displaced people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Twenty-five seats are reserved for the people from that region. State BJP chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi said after a long struggle of more than seven decades, "the time has come to do complete justice to the displaced persons of areas of J-K, which are under the illegal occupation of Pakistan, by providing legal and constitutional recognition to their rights." The displaced people from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) should be granted these reserved seats in the assembly to choose their representatives here, he said. Fifth migrant child dies in custody after being detained at US-Mexico border
The United States on Monday (local time) said that a 16-year-old boy from Guatemala died at a Border Patrol station in southern Texas, becoming the fifth death of migrant child since December last year.In a statement, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the Border Patrol apprehended the teenager in Rio Grande Valley on May 13. The CBP said the teenager was found unresponsive on Monday morning during a welfare check, Al Jazeera reported.The agency did not state why the teenager was detained for a week but said he was "due for placement" in a facility for youth operated by the US Department of Health and Human Services.The incident happened less than a week following the death of a two-year-old child after he and his mother were detained by the Border Patrol.According to the US and Guatemalan authorities, the small child died after several weeks in the hospital. 'Negative elements' trying to disrupt NRC update; create unrest in Assam: Sonowal
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Tuesday claimed that "negative elements" were trying to disrupt the ongoing process to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and his government was determined to thwart any such attempts. Sonowal also asked "genuine" Indian citizens not to panic as their concerns would be adequately addressed in the mega exercise aimed at identifying those illegal immigrants who had entered the state after 1971. "There are some negative elements. These negative elements are trying to disrupt the smooth proceedings of the NRC update. The state government is alive to the situation. "There are some groups which are trying to create unrest in Assam in the name of NRC. Our government is determined to thwart any such attempts," he told PTI here. Activists of the Youth Congress in Palghar district of Maharashtra have complained to police against a BJP worker for allegedly posting derogatory comments against Mahatma Gandhi on social media, police said Tuesday. The Congress workers alleged that local BJP activist Prakash Lodaya last week in a post on Facebook justified the assassination of the Father of the Nation and lauded his assassin Nathuram Godse, a police official said. They submitted a memorandum to the Vasai police here on Monday in this connection, he said. Man commits suicide at park in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh
A man allegedly committed suicide at a public park in front of the collectorate in Hanumangarh of Rajasthan, police said Tuesday. Surjaram, aged 50, allegedly hanged himself from a tree, police said. Local resident spotted the body and informed police on Tuesday morning. The body was shifted to the mortuary of the local government hospital for a post-mortem examination, police added.

5th migrant child dies after detention by US Border Patrol
The US government says a 16-year-old Guatemalan has died at a Border Patrol station in South Texas, the fifth death of a migrant child apprehended by border agents since December. US Customs and Border Protection identified the teenager as Carlos Gregorio Hernandez Vasquez. CBP said the Border Patrol apprehended the teenager in South Texas' Rio Grande Valley on May 13. He was found to be unresponsive during a welfare check Monday morning. Carlos was detained for six days at the Border Patrol's processing centre in McAllen, Texas, despite federal law and CBP's guidelines generally requiring the transfer of an unaccompanied youth within three days to a facility operated by the US Department of Health and Human Services. The agency said Carlos was "due for placement" in an HHS facility at the time of his death. CBP said Carlos reported early Sunday morning that he was not feeling well and diagnosed with the flu.
