Collaboration key for national mapping agencies, private firms: Report

A leading think tank has made a strong pitch for collaboration between the national mapping agencies (NMAs) and the private sector to build space infrastructure and geospatial knowledge services, which find applications in various economic sectors. A report 'Evolving Role of National Mapping Agencies Transitioning to Geospatial Knowledge Infrastructure', released recently by Geospatial World a think tank in space and geospatial technologies, cited examples of collaborations by national mapping agencies and the private sector in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Singapore and the US. "Given the critical importance of space and geospatial solutions to national mission programmes, delays in these areas mean lost opportunities. Looking at further easing FDI norms in space sector: DPIIT secretary

The government is looking at further easing foreign direct investment (FDI) norms in the space sector to attract overseas players, a top official said on Monday. Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Rajesh Kumar Singh said that huge scope is there for Saudi Arabian companies to invest in India in different sectors such as aviation, pharma, bulk drugs, renewable energy, food processing and agrti-tech. "There is tremendous scope for collaboration... such as in artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security, automation and space, where we are looking to further liberalise our foreign direct investment norms to bring in private sector and foreign investment in our space sector," Singh said at the India-Saudi Arabia investment forum meet here. New space policy to boost pvt participation in space sector: Jitendra Singh

India has built end-to-end capability in the space sector and is poised for a greater participation in the global space economy, Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said on Monday. Addressing the G20 Space Economy Leaders meeting in Shillong, Singh said the Union Cabinet has approved the Indian Space Policy 2023 to give further boost to private investments and encourage private participation in all areas of space activities. The reforms aim to make private industries co-travellers in India's space journey by allowing them to undertake independent end-to-end space activities.
