Bradley snaps six-year win drought to capture BMW crown

American Keegan Bradley snapped a six-year US PGA winless skid on Monday, parring the first playoff hole to defeat new world number one Justin Rose for the BMW Championship crown. Bradley won his fourth career title, his third in a playoff, to deny Rose his third triumph of the season even though the runner-up effort was enough to see the Englishman atop the rankings for the first time in his career. Rose lipped out a 15-foot par putt at the 72nd hole to shoot three-under par 67 and match Bradley, who closed with a 64, on 20-under 260 at rain-softened Aronimink in a final round delayed a day by showers. CM presents cash prizes to Odisha Asian Games medal winners

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday presented a cash prize to sportspersons from the state who won medals in the recently concluded Indonesia Asian Games 2018.The Chief Minister presented Rs one crore each to the four women players of the state - Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Deep Grace Ekka, who were members of silver medal-winning Women's Hockey Team.While cheques Rs 50 lakhs each was presented to two men players- Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas of the bronze medal-winning Men's Hockey Team.Indian Women Hockey team bagged a silver medal at Asian Games 2018 as it lost 1-2 to Japan in the final at the Gelora Bung Karno Hockey Field in Jakarta on Aug. 31.While the men Hockey team beat Pakistan by 2-1 to clinch a bronze medal.

Patnaik felicitates six hockey players from Odisha

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday felicitated six hockey players from Odisha, who won laurels at the recently-concluded Asian Games, 2018 in Jakarta. Patnaik gave away prize money of Rs 1 crore each to four members of the women's hockey team, which won silver medal, and Rs 50 lakh each to two members of the men's hockey team that won broze medal in the tournament. The four girls, who were given prize amount of Rs 1 crore each are Sunita Lakra, Namita Topoo, Lilima Minz and Deep Grace Ekka, while the two members of the men's team, who got Rs 50 lakh each were Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas. The CM also felicitated Sunita Lakra and Amit Rohidas with Rs 2 lakh each. The two had bagged Biju Patnaik Sports Awards for 2017. He announced Rs 7.5 lakh cash prize for two more athletes - Jauna Murmu and Purnima Hembram, who had participated in the Asian Games.

Murali Vijay scores half century for Essex

India opener Murali Vijay finally found some runs in England as he made a sedate half-century for Essex in a County Championship Division One match against Nottinghamshire here Monday. Replying to Nottinghamshire's 177 all out, Essex were off to a solid start as Vijay and Nick Browne added 56 runs for the first wicket at Trent Bridge. However, the visiting team lost a few wickets after that as Nottinghamshire closed in on their lower-order. Vijay, who struggled to get going in the Test series against England, scored 56 off 95 balls. Vijay's knock included nine boundaries. Earlier, Nottinghamshire failed to capitalise on the toss after electing to bat as they were bowled out in 58.1 overs. For Essex, medium pacer Jamie Porter was the most successful bowler, returning figures of 4/50. In another county match recently, India's left-arm spinner Axar Patel claimed nine wickets for Durham, including seven in an innings.

Hryana Assembly congratulates all 18 medallists of Asian Games

The Haryana Assembly Monday congratulated all the 18 sportspersons from the state who have won medals at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta recently. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij informed the House that sportspersons from India won total 69 medals in these games at Indonesia's capital Jakarta including 15 gold, 24 silver and 30 bronze medals. Out of these, Haryana won 6 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze, he said. Vij said that all these players will be provided prize money and jobs as per the sports policy of the state. Under this, the gold medal winners would get Rs 3 crore, silver medallists will get Rs. 1.5 crore and bronze winners will get Rs 75 lakh as cash prize.

Indian Railways Monday overcame Indian Air Force 73-60 in the All India Basketball Tournament for men for the PSG Trophy here. The winners were trailing 48-49 at the end of the third quarter but rallied to win. Loveneeth scored 23 points for the winners, while Praveen and Narendar secured 17 points each for the losers. Alastair Cook scored 147 in his final innings in company of skipper Joe Root, who was back in form with a three figure mark as England reached 364 for 6 at tea on the penultimate day of the fifth Test. England now enjoy an overall lead of 404 runs and the 259-run stand for the third wicket between Cook and Root (125) killed the contest. While Cook made it a memorable ending to his illustrious career with a 33rd hundred, Root scored his first hundred in 28 innings as Indian bowlers struggled in absence of an injured Ishant Sharma. ONGC beats Indian Railways in a thriller in Murugappa Gold Cup

Defending champion ONGC pulled off a dramatic 4-3 win over Indian Railways in a Pool 'A' match of the All India MCC Murugappa Gold Cup hockey tournament here Monday. Indian Army defeated Central Secretariat 3-2 in another Pool 'A' match. The encounter between ONGC and Railways saw action from the word go. Ranjan Kundulna drew first blood for the Railways in the second minute. Seven minutes later, ONGC restored parity as Gurjant Singh slotted home from a penalty corner.
