Hima opts out of IAAF Continental Cup
Sprint sensation Hima Das has pulled out of the IAAF Continental Cup as the Athletics Federation of India wants her to give rest after a hectic season which saw her become the junior world 400m champion. The prestigious tournament is to be held in Czech Republic from Saturday. Hima was initially among seven Indian athletes who were to take part in the season-ending IAAF event in Ostrava on September 8 and 9 but has now been replaced by Australia's Anneliese Rubbie as the second runner from Asia-Pacific. The Continental Cup is competed among four teams -- Europe, Africa, America and Asia-Pacific -- in 18 events each in both men and women's sections and the mixed 4x400m relay. Fatima edges out Amandeep to win maiden pro title in Hero WPGT
Afshan Fatima claimed her maiden title as a professional, edging out Amandeep Drall on the second play-off hole in the 13th leg of the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour at the Jaypee Greens on Friday. Afshan was six-over 150 after 36 holes, while Amandeep, the only player to have won three times this season, was two-over through two rounds. Afshan carded one-under 71 as Amandeep went to three-over 75, which meant both players were tied 5-over 221. In the play-off, both players were once again tied and then Afshan pipped Amandeep in the second play-off hole. This was the second tournament at the Jaypee Greens this year. Maradona to coach Dorados de Sinaloa
Argentinean football legend Diego Maradona has been appointed as the coach of the Mexican professional football club, Dorados de Sinaloa.The 57-year-old has replaced Francisco Gomez, who failed to guide the team to victory, goal.com reported.Earlier, Maradona was the coach of United Arab Emirates-based club Al-Fujairah. There was no stopping the golden run of India's junior shooters with Hriday Hazarika claiming the 10m air rifle top honours before the women's team combined for a new world record and gold at the ISSF World Championships here Friday. Elavenil Valarivan also won the individual silver in women's 10m air rifle, going down narrowly to China's double senior World Cup gold-medallist Shi Mengyao, in the final.
