Kohli admits selection has been off, tells batsmen to keep it simple

India captain Virat Kohli conceded that team combination was "a bit off" in the lost second Test against England and urged his struggling batsmen to "keep it simple" in the head to save the ongoing series. "I think we got the combination a bit off before the game. We have a chance to correct that next game. (At) Two-nil down the only option is to come out positive, make it 2-1 and make it an exciting series from there," Kohli said after the team lost by an innings and 159 runs to be 0-2 down in the five-match series. India could only make 107 and 130 in the second Test and will need to avoid a loss in the third game -- due to start on August 18 in Nottingham -- to stay alive. Kohli reiterated that his batsmen's problem is more mental than technical. "I don't see any technical deficiency. If a batsman is clear in the head and he's clear about the plans he's taking, then if the ball does something off the pitch, you're able to counter it," said Kohli at the post-match media ...

Actor Anushka Sharma, whose presence in a Team India group photo in London had attracted severe criticism online, today declined to get drawn into the controversy, saying she does not engage with trolls. The 30-year-old actor said her presence in the group photo did not flout any norms. "Whoever had to make a clarification that has been made. This was a trolling activity. I don't react to trolls, I don't give attention to them. "Whatever happened, has happened within the guidelines. Whatever will happen, will always happen within the guidelines. This is a topic of absolutely no substance," Anushka told reporters at the trailer launch of "Sui-Dhaaga" here. Rooney inspires DC United to last-gasp win

A moment of magic from Wayne Rooney fired DC United to a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Orlando in Major League Soccer on Sunday. The two sides had appeared to be heading for a 2-2 draw at Audi Field as Orlando broke out following a United corner in the fifth minute of stoppage time. With United goalkeeper David Ousted stranded upfield, Orlando's Will Johnson advanced past halfway with an empty net ahead of him. But a superb last-ditch tackle from Rooney upended Ousted, and the former England and Manchester United star then launched a long ball into the area met by Luciano Acosta, who nodded home the winner. Argentinian striker Acosta's goal completed a hat-trick and gave United a vital three points as they attempt to move off the bottom of the Eastern Conference. United remain rooted to the foot of the standings however with 21 points from 20 games. United have several games in hand over the teams above them however, and could yet conceivably mount a charge towards the playoffs in the ...

Black car Bolt's only demand on Aussie football foray

Usain Bolt might be a superstar athlete but the fastest man ever won't be getting special treatment when he arrives in Australia in his bid to become a professional footballer. Australia's Central Coast Mariners have agreed to help the eight-time Olympic champion achieve his long-held dream, letting him train with the club indefinitely in his pursuit of a playing contract. He is due to arrive in Gosford, 75 kilometres (47 miles) north of Sydney, on his own this weekend and has made just one demand -- that his hire car is black. "Colour of choice, apparently," Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp told the Sydney Daily Telegraph Monday. "So black it is." Asked if there had been other demands, he said: "No, there's only that one. "We've had no requests for private bodyguards, personal masseurs, chauffeurs. Nothing about providing bottled water from France, either," he added. And his hire car won't be top of the range either. Instead, he will make do with one of the Hyundais the club .

Ashraful eyes Bangladesh comeback as ban ends

Former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful said Monday that has set his sights on a comeback with the national side after his five-year ban for match-fixing ended. "I am feeling really nice as I was waiting for this day for the last five years. (I told myself) when August 13, 2018 came I would be available for national team again," Ashraful told AFP from Britain. "Over the last five years I never felt I wouldn't be able to come back. I never lacked this confidence. I always felt I would come back," he said. Ashraful was fined and banned for eight years -- cut on appeal to five -- in 2014 for match and spot fixing during a T20 tournament in Bangladesh in 2013. The Bangladesh Cricket Board partially lifted his ban in 2016, allowing him to play domestic first-class and List A cricket. But he was still suspended from international and franchise-based Twenty20 cricket for another two years. Ashraful, who turned 34 in July, showed a glimpse of his talent in domestic 50-over Dhaka Premier ..

Anderson is a special commodity: Joe Root

Effusive in his praise for very effective James Anderson, England skipper Joe Root says the veteran paceman is a "special commodity", who is getting better with age. The 36-year-old Anderson crossed the 100-wicket mark at Lord's during England's comprehensive victory by an innings and 159-run win in the second Test against India . Anderson is also on the cusp of overtaking Glenn McGrath as the most successful fast bowler in Test cricket. With 553 wickets, he is 10 short of the Australian great. "He's a special, special commodity, isn't he? He's something that doesn't come along very often and we've got to enjoy him while he's around. There's been chat about his longevity but at the minute he's bowling better than he ever has before," Root said. "Even though the conditions suited, you've still got to put the ball in the right area and ask the right questions of the batsmen. Throughout the whole game he did just that, he set the tone well with Stuart (Broad), and as a whole bowling ...

Indian batsmen's troubles mental, not technical: Kohli

India captain Virat Kohli feels his team's mounting batting troubles are more mental than technical and has urged his fellow batsmen to "keep it simple" in the head to save ongoing Test series against England. India could only make 107 and 130 in the second Test at Lord's, resulting in an innings and 159-run defeat here yesterday. The team is down 0-2 in the five-match series with the third game due to start on August 18 in Nottingham. "I don't see any technical deficiency. If a batsman is clear in the head and he's clear about the plans he's taking, then if the ball does something off the pitch, you're able to counter it," said Kohli at the post-match media interaction. "If my head's clouded then I feel like the ball can do this, or that, or even that. You know there are three-four scenarios that run in your head. It sounds cliche but as the greats have said, keep this game simple, that's all you have to do. You can't come here and think the conditions are too difficult because they .

India may host NBA pre-season game in Mumbai next year: NBA chief Adam Silver

In what could be a major boost for basketball in India, the country may host a pre-season NBA game in Mumbai next year, said the league's Commissioner Adam Silver. To promote the game in India, NBA in May 2017 had launched The NBA Academy, an elite basketball training center at Jaypee Greens Integrated Sports Complex in Greater Noida. NBA's initiative has been yielding desired results as 20 odd boys and girls from New Delhi and Bengaluru have represented India in the just-concluded Jr NBA World Championships that concluded here last night. "We had India represented here. We have an academy on the ground now. We are potentially looking to play a game in Mumbai, may be next year. It would be a pre-season game," Silver told PTI on the sidelines of the Jr NBA World Championships. "If we do a pre-season game, we can build time and our players and their families can spend time, learn about the country's culture, he said. The NBA chief said the organisation is determined to break the ...
