Japan's Honda to manage Cambodia national team

Japanese star forward Keisuke Honda signed on as general manager of Cambodia's national team Sunday in a move that brings high-profile talent to a much-loved but struggling side. The unusual arrangement will see Honda, who signed for A-League side Melbourne Victory earlier this month and retired from international football in July after Japan's World Cup loss to Belgium, work without a salary for the length of the two-year contract. The 32-year-old striker and former AC Milan player told reporters through a translator that he was keen to assist Cambodian football and promote the country. "I will help Cambodia develop a real playing style," he told a press conference in Phnom Penh. He added that he would speak regularly with the players by videoconference while working around the Australian football season and would spend as much time in Cambodia as possible outside his existing commitments. Family only reason Courtois moved to Real: agent

Thibaut Courtois would probably still be a Chelsea player had his family lived in London and not Madrid his agent told the BBC on Sunday. The 26-year-old Belgian -- whose outstanding performances as Belgium finished a best ever third at the World Cup earned him the Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper -- moved to European champions Real Madrid on Wednesday for a reported 38million pounds ($48.5million, 42million euros) the relatively low fee due to him having just one year left on his contract. However, his agent Christophe Henrotay insisted Sunday the Chelsea fans should not be angry and think of Courtois as being disloyal in seeking to move to Madrid even if his refusal to return as requested to the London club for pre-season training and talks with new manager Maurizio Sarri left a sour taste. "There has been a misunderstanding that he wanted to get a move for the wrong reasons, but he was pushing to go out of Chelsea because of his children," said Henrotay. "If the family were ..

India reeling at 17/2 as rain forces early lunch on day four

Rain provided some relief to India who were struggling at 17 for two in their second innings when early lunch was taken on day four of the second Test against England at Lord's here. At the break, Cheteshwar Pujara (5) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) were the unbeaten batsmen. This was after England declared their first innings at 396 for in 88.1 overs, taking a 289-run lead. India were bowled out for 107 runs in their first innings. Starting from overnight 357-6, England looked for some quick runs in this morning session. But they didn't come so easily as Mohammed Shami (3-96) bowled a very sharp spell. He beat Chris Woakes (137 not out) and Sam Curran (40) on a number of occasions, but was unlucky to not induce any edges at all. The runs came in a trickle, but when it started drizzling a bit, Curran threw his bat around. When he was finally out caught at third man off Hardik Pandya (3-66), England declared their innings close for fear of more rain. India then got off to another poor start. .

Sevilla threaten to pull out of Super Cup against Barcelona

Sevilla have threatened to pull out of Sunday's Spanish Super Cup clash with Barcelona if the La Liga champions field more than three non-EU players. The Spanish football federation (RFEF) said on Saturday that there would be no restrictions on players from outside the EU for the Super Cup, despite only three being allowed in squads for league matches. Sevilla said they could withdraw from the game in Tangier, Morocco, if Barca name an "improper lineup". "Sevilla FC is surprised by the RFEF's announcement 24 hours before the Super Cup," Sevilla said in a statement. "It has said that as many non-EU players as desired can be registered. In their last statement for the 2018-2019 season, only three were due to be allowed, without exception. "The club's legal department is studying the matter and should FC Barcelona line up with more than three non-EU players, it would present possible ground for withdrawal due to an improper line-up." New signings Malcom, Arturo Vidal and Arthur will ...

Pogba tight-lipped over United situation for fear of being fined

Paul Pogba added fuel to rumours of his deteriorating relationship with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, saying he could not express himself for fear of being fined. The 25-year-old -- who scored a superb goal in France's 4-2 victory over Croatia in the World Cup final -- was credited with a 'monster performance' by Mourinho in United's opening 2-1 Premier League win over Leicester City on Friday. However, Pogba -- who cost United a then-world record 89 million pounds (105 million euros, $116 million) in 2016 to prise him away from Juventus -- is known to be upset by Mourinho's remarks about his performances at the World Cup compared to those for his club last season. Mourinho had implied Pogba -- whose agent Mini Raiola has reportedly been talking with Barcelona -- had flourished under Didier Deschamps at the World Cup because he could not be distracted by his entourage or by his commercial obligations. "There are things and there are things that I cannot say otherwise I will
