PCB announces pay hike for domestic cricketers
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a pay hike for its domestic cricketers.Under the newly-announced financial package, a domestic player in the playing eleven will be entitled to get Rs 91,000 for one Quaid-e-Azam Trophy first-class match and one-day match, Geo TV reported.The remaining four players of the 15-member domestic squad will be given Rs 34,750 for each first-class match of the Quaid-e-Azam tournament and one-day match.While match fees of the domestic players participating in the one-day tournament have increased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per match, players participating in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy have got a hike from Rs 25, 000 to Rs 50,000, per match.The match fees of players participating in the T20 tournament also saw a hike from Rs 24,000 to Rs 30,000 per match.According to the new financial package, players participating in the Pakistan Cup one-day tournament will now get a total amount of Rs 35,000 as compared to the previous amount of Rs 30,000.The ...

Indian men's hockey team jumps one spot to 5th in FIH rankings
An impressive silver-medal finish at the Champions Trophy has helped the Indian men's hockey team jump one spot to fifth in the latest FIH rankings chart released today. India had lost to Australia via penalty shootout in the summit clash of the Champions Trophy after the two sides were locked 1-1 in regulation time in the Netherlands last month. India, which is defending its title at the upcoming Asian Games, is the only team which registered an upward movement among the top 10 teams. The Indian team, which now has 1484 points in its kitty, is above the likes of 2012 Olympic champions Germany, England and Spain. World champion Australia maintained its top spot with 1906 points, ahead of Olympic champion Argentina (1883), Belgium (1709), the Netherlands (1654) and India. Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has warned the club not to sell France World Cup star Paul Pogba and instead to focus on strengthening the squad. Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar feels talent, not age should be the sole criteria while selecting a national team. Egypt's goalkeeper Essam El Hadary says he's retiring from the national team after making history and becoming the oldest soccer player to play in a World Cup match during the tournament in Russia. The 45-year-old posted on Facebook late on Monday: "After 22 years, four months and 12 days, I saw it as the best moment to hang up my gloves." El Hadary debuted for the Pharoahs in 1996 and says he's "very proud" after playing in 159 international matches. He played in Egypt's final group game in Russia, saving a penalty in the Pharaohs' 2-1 defeat by Saudi Arabia. El Hadary will remain goalie for Egypt's Ismaili team. Ball tampering, abuse threatening for cricket's DNA: ICC chief
International Cricket Council (ICC) chief David Richardson, while delivering MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture on Monday here, stated that things like ball-tampering, verbal abuse and on-field confrontations are dangerous and threatening for cricket and warned players to stop such behaviour."Cricket's DNA is based on integrity, but we have seen too much behaviour of late that puts that in jeopardy and this has to stop," Richardson told media.Richardson also criticised the use of sledging and said the ICC is strictly against such behaviour and as a result have introduced harsher penalties, like being banned from Tests and ODIs."Sledging is another element of the game that constantly draws attention - where do you draw the line?
