Former SLC boss alleges cropping up of Ranatunga, Aravinda names in match fixing complaint

Former Sri Lanka Cricket President Thilanga Sumathipala today made the allegation that 1996 World Cup winners Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda de Silva were the first players from the country to be named for alleged match fixing. "Arjuna and Aravinda were the names mentioned, they were alleged to have taken 15,000 dollars from someone named Gupta," Sumathipala told reporters at the north central town of Anuradhapura. He said his (SLC) administration at that time was blamed for not investigating the complaint of alleged match fixing by Ranatunga and de Silva. Sumathipala was firing a salvo at Ranatunga in the duo's long running public slanging match. Ranatunga, a current government minister, had earlier accused Sumathipala's family of having links with bookies. He said that SLC has gone down to a precipice because of corrupt management of the game under Sumathipala. Ranatunga's brother Nishantha had filed court case to stay the May 30 elections of SLC when Sumathipala seemed ready to be ..

Kohli would like to prove his best batsman tag in front of British public: Shastri

Success in the last four years has driven Virat Kohli to a different level "mentally" and the Indian skipper would like to show the British public in the upcoming Test series why he is eulogized as the best players in the world, says head coach Ravi Shastri. With scores of 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0,7, 6 and 20 in five Tests, Kohli averaged a horrendous 13.50 in his 10 innings during the 2014 England Tour. Coming into the upcoming series, all eyes are on Kohli, who has evolved as one of the finest batsman of the world in the last four years. "Look at his (Kohli's) record. I don't have to spell out what he has done in the last four years. When you perform in that fashion, you are mentally at a different level as well. You are waiting for whatever test comes your way," Shastri told Espncricinfo. "Yes, he might have had an ordinary series when he came here four years ago. But four years down the line he is the best player in the world. And he would like to get out there and show the British .

Asked if he felt India U-17 team goalkepeer Dheeraj Singh's career was not handled properly (by his managers), Constantine initially said, "I have nothing to do with the looking after of that boy. That is not my job." But he went on to say that it was more of hype of the U-17 team than the actual achievement on the field. "There was a lot of hype in the U-17 team's performance. They did not win any game in the U-17 World Cup and I am ..
