I plan in advance before visiting a new country, says Bumrah

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah says meticulous planning before an overseas tour is not just confined to cricket for him, as he also likes to explore the country he visits. You look to enjoy the country, you look to see the place. That is how you get to know about the culture of the place and you eventually start enjoying the country. It then reflects on your performance as well, Bumrah, who will be available for selection from the second Test onwards, was quoted as saying by his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. Whenever I go to a new country, I always plan in advance. Before visiting the country, I have a look at a few videos. What works over there. What the home team does over there. It is very important for long tours to enjoy the country and see the places. So that's the basic thing that I look to follow, he said further. Bumrah, a key bowler for India in limited overs cricket, also did well in his debut Test series in South Africa, picking up 14 wickets in three games. Having suffered a

Merecedes before Hamilton and Bottas says Wolff

Mercedes team chief Toto Wolff denied Monday that the use of team orders in Sunday's spectacular German Grand Prix signalled that Lewis Hamilton would be preferred as the number one driver. Wolff was adamant that the triumphant Hamilton and his team-mate Valtteri Bottas will remain free to race each other until late in the season when there might be championships decided by such decisions. "Racing is most important," said Wolff. "We always said if the championship goes into its last third, or last quarter, and there is a big difference between the drivers, then we might make these unpopular calls. "But it's much too early in the season to do this. We made it in order to bring a one and two home.... And we would have done it the other way around." Bottas attempted to challenge and pass Hamilton for the lead in Sunday's rain-hit race following a Safety Car period after Sebastian Vettel crashed while leading for Ferrari. The two Mercedes men battled side-by-side before Hamilton emerged ..

Ramkumar not losing sleep over missing out on creating history

A "calmer and focussed" Ramkumar Ramanthan is not crying over losing out on the chance to create history in Indian tennis and he would rather savour the priceless moment of earning his maiden singles final on ATP World Tour. Ramkumar became the first Indian in seven years to advance to the singles final of an ATP World Tour event but missed out on ending India's 20-year title drought when he lost the Hall of Fame final to Steven Johnson on Sunday night. "I was disappointed for not winning the final but it is tough to reach this far. I just fell short. I will watch the match (recording) again and see (what went wrong) but it's a learning experience. And nothing can buy this moment, so I will take positives out of it," Ramkumar told PTI from Newport. The last Indian to win an ATP singles trophy was Leander Paes, who incidentally had won on the grass courts of the same Hall of Fame tournament in 1998. Ramkumar was not in great form coming into the tournament, having lost four first-round

Tests in mind, Natl selectors pick Chahal for SA 'A' four-day matches

With an aim to prepare him for the Test format, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was today named in the India A team for the two four-day matches against South Africa A, starting August 4. The selection committee meeting was held in Kolkata. Chahal, who has been an automatic choice in the limited overs format has not played any first-class cricket since December 2016 (against Haryana in Ranji Trophy), but the Indian team management and especially skipper Virat Kohli has indicated that he wants the wiry leg-spinner for five-day matches also. The first of the two games will be played in Belgaum (August 4-7) followed by the second in Bengaluru (August 10-13). It is widely believed that Chahal is being kept match-ready as the selectors have named senior squad for only three Test matches. "The current team management want wrist spinners in their squad. Kuldeep-Chahal combination has worked pretty well in the limited overs. However, Chahal has not played too many first-class matches (27 games, .

Without coach since March, India squad contingent fends for itself ahead of Asiad

The Squash Racket Federation of India's (SRFI)inability to find a full-time head coach ever since the bitter exit of Egyptian Achraf El Karargui has affected the Indian team's preparations ahead of the Asian Games in Indonesia next month. The lack of a world-class coach has led to players preparing individually in different parts of the world. A SAI official confirmed to PTI that SRFI did not recommend a single name for the coach's job ever since the departure of Karargui, who quit in March ahead of the Commonwealth Games after being fed up of an "unprofessional" SRFI. While top players Saurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa have been training in England under different coaches with government funding, Dipika Pallikal is off to Egypt to train with former India coach Karargui. Harinder Pal Sandhu has also joined Ghosal at Pontefract, England and they both will be training together before returning home for the Asiad camp in Chennai from August 10. Late goals power Malaysia to win over India

Malaysia scored two late goals to register a 3-0 win over India in an U-16 friendly match in Kuala Lumpur today. The Indian boys who have come to Malaysia on the back of a heart-breaking loss to Thailand last week started showing their intent from the kick-off. Ridge blasted from inside the box as early as the fourth minute but the Malaysian keeper parried it away. Malaysia, on the other hand, gave the Indian defenders a run for their money in their own box. They continued to push constantly but Biaka and the sturdy Indian defenders averted the danger. Givson and Ridge were looking forward to hurl the opening goal from the counter-attacking opportunities but they could hardly find any hole to breach the Malaysian defence. Finally, the Malaysia striker Muhd Najmudin slotted their opening goal in the 26th minute to hand his team an advantage. Bibiano Fernandes opted for a couple of changes in quick succession and introduced Sailo and Manish at the expenses of Givson and Gurkirat ...
