IOA drops 20 from pencak silat Asiad squad, federation to take legal action
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) today dropped 20 athletes from the Pencak Silat team for the upcoming Asian Games, alleging fake credentials, prompting the national federation to threaten legal action. When the IOA released a list of 524 athletes for the Asian Games on July 5, 22 athletes from pencak silat were selected to take part in the Asian Games, now the Olympic body has cleared only two members. The Games are scheduled to be held in the Indonesian twin cities of Jakarta and Palembang from August 18. The Indian Pencak Silat Federation (IPSF), unhappy with the decision, said the certificate provided for the two approved athletes are the same as the 20 rejected players. "While talking with officials of the IOA, they said, 'we are confirming only 2 of your female athletes for the Asian Games'," IPSF, Secretary General, Mufti Hamid Yasin, told PTI. India U-20 side to play Argentina U-20 in Cotif tournament
India's U-20 football team will be playing against Argentina U-20 during a tournament in Spain from July 29. Besides Argentina, the Indians will be taking on the national U-20 sides of Venezuela and Mauritania in the COTIF Cup the Mini Mundial Sub U-20 men's football tournament. They will also play Murcia U-20, a local side in the tournament. National team director Abhishek Yadav said the All India Football Federation has drawn up a template where all national teams will be playing international competitions in addition to their domestic schedule. "The COTIF tournament in Spain falls well into our plans and we are excitedly looking forward to it. Zaheer Khan to flag off half marathon on Sunday
Former India pacer Zaheer Khan will flag-off the Kanakia Monsoon Marathon Challenge, which comprises three races, here on July 22. Over 3,500 runners are participating in the three race categories- 5 kms, 10 kms and the half marathon of 21 kms. Of the total number of participants, around 500 have registered themselves for the half marathon, a media release issued here said. India jump one place to 5th in latest FIH rankings
India have jumped a rung to fifth position in the men's hockey world rankings issued by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) today. India has made the jump by virtue of its second consecutive runner-up finish at the Champions Trophy in Breda, Netherlands earlier this month. Champions Trophy winners Australia remained on top of the chart, thanks to title its victory. The Kookaburras claimed their 15th Champions Trophy by defeating India in a shoot-out in the final, ensuring that the reigning world champions held on to the top spot in the rankings table.
