Vani Kapoor makes cut in Pattaya

Vani Kapoor overcame a disastrous run of three bogeys in a row on the front nine to make the cut at Ladies European Thailand Championships here today. Vani, who shot a solid 72 on first day, steadied herself on the back nine after being three-over for the front nine at the Phoenix Golf and Country Club. She shot 75 in the second round in scorching conditions. The Indian golfer is now three-over 147 for 36 holes as she made the cut on the line while India's other challenger Gaurika Bishnoi (75-76) missed the cut. Lyn Carlsson (65) produced a stunning seven-under 65 following her even par 72 on first day to take a share of the lead at seven-under 137. She shared the lead with Pauline Del Rosario (70-67). Thailand's Kanyalak Preedasuttjit fired a four-under-par 68 after a first round 70 to get to six-under-par, where she was joined by Anne Van Damm (67-71) of the Netherlands.

Shiva, Mandeep among four to enter semis of Mongolia boxing tourney

Shiva Thapa (60kg) and Mandeep Jangra (69kg) were among the four Indian boxers to make the semifinals as country's tally of expected medals swelled to eight at the Ulaanbaatar Cup in Mongolia today. Shiva, a world bronze-winner and multiple-time asian championships medallist, notched up a clinical unanimous win over Kyrgyzstan's Ravshanbek to make the semifinals. Gangjee emerges as best Indian in Korea

Rahil Gangjee produced the best card among Indian golfers to make a significant move in the second round of the Kolon Korea Open Golf Championship here today. Gangjee, who shot one-over 72 in the first round added a solid two-under 68 to get to one-under and Tied-17th place. Asian Games-bound amateur Ridhima wins 7th leg on Hero WPG Tour

Ridhima Dilawari, who is on a summer break from Columbia University in the United States, joined a select band of amateurs, to win on the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour. The 20-year-old Delhi girl, who started the day three shots behind the overnight leader, Tvesa Malik, carded a brilliant 4-under 68 with eight birdies against four bogeys in an aggressive display of golf at Prestige Golfshire Golf course here. Ridhima, who is also part of the Indian team, which will play at the Asian Games later this year in Jakarta, added a 68 to her first two rounds of 75-76 to finish at 3-over and two shots ahead of Tvesa Malik (73) who totaled 221. Lahiri starts Travelers Championships with 3-under 69; Spieth in lead

Anirban Lahiri made a solid start with a three-under 67 that placed him in Tied-23rd position after the first round of the Travelers Championship here. Young golfer Lakshya Raj Poonia, son of 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist discus thrower Krishna Poonia, finished a creditable tied second in the boys (13-18) category of the Junior Prep Tour event 6 in Florida, US. Reigning ISL champion Chennaiyin FC signs Mizoram trio

: Indian Super League (ISL) title holder Chennaiyin FC today signed the Mizoram trio of Isaac Vanmalsawma, Zohmingliana Ralte and Laldinliana Renthlei on two-year deals. Twenty-one-year old winger Isaac Vanmalsawma and 27-year-old defender Zohmingliana Ralte have signed for the two-time ISL champions after the expiry of their contracts at FC Pune City and Bengaluru FC respectively, a press note said. Meanwhile, 19-year old right-back Laldinliana has joined on a free transfer from Mizoram Premier League (MPL) outfit Chhinga Veng FC, having completed a loan stint at Aizawl FC in the 2017-18 I-League. CFC coach John Gregory said the new signings would add quality and depth to the squad ahead of the 2018-19 season. His meticulous build-up plan was thrown haywire by injury but fit-again Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli today said missing the much-anticipated county stint before the tour of England has turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
