Panamanian striker Luis Tejada confirmed prior to a national team training session that he would retire from international play after the Canaleros' (Canal Men's) maiden World Cup appearance.
Celebrations of the Champions League final win by Real Madrid, held at the iconic Cibeles fountain in the Spanish capital, went off peacefully with 38 people sustaining mostly minor injuries.
Bangladesh have retained interim coach Courtney Walsh to oversee the national side in next month's Twenty20 international series against Afghanistan, the cricket board said today. Bangladesh have been without a head coach since Chandika Hathurusingha stepped down in October after three years at the helm. Walsh has been called on before, leading Bangladesh to the finals of a T20 tri-nations series in Sri Lanka in March which they narrowly lost to India. Afghanistan will host Bangladesh for the three-match T20 series in the Indian city of Dehradun from June 3 to 7. It will act as a warm-up for Afghanistan as they prepare for their first-ever Test against India in Bangalore from June 14. The Bangladesh Cricket Board recently appointed former South African batsman and coach Gary Kirsten as a consultant to find a coach before a tour of the West Indies starting in July. The board on Sunday appointed Walsh interim coach for the Afghanistan series. The former West Indies paceman said his side
The BCCI today reacted cautiously to a sting operation which alleged pitch doctoring in three Test matches featuring India, saying it would consider action against implicated former cricketer Robin Morris only if he is found guilty in an ongoing ICC probe. The sting has been carried out by Al Jazeera channel and the Test matches in question are India vs Sri Lanka (Galle, July 26-29, 2017), India vs Australia (Ranchi, March 16-20, 2017) and India vs England (Chennai, December 16-20, 2016). The first and third Tests mentioned were won by India while the Ranchi encounter ended in a draw. "We believe ICC has started its probe. Let them complete that and pronounce Morris guilty. The BCCI will only act when they have the verdict in hand," a senior office-bearer of the Board told PTI today. He also said that Morris, who has played 42 first-class and 51 List A matches in his career is not currently involved in any BCCI projects. "We need to check with our Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) whether ...

Portugal and Real Madrid star forward Cristiano Ronaldo did not commit to his future with Real Madrid, saying it's been great playing for the club and now is the time to enjoy.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that Mohamed Salah's injury that forced him off in the first half of the Champions League final today was "serious". "It is a serious injury. He is in hospital for an X-ray. It is either the collarbone or the shoulder itself," Klopp said after Liverpool's 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid in the final in Kiev. "It doesn't look good. That's it." Salah, who scored 44 goals for Liverpool this season, came off just half an hour into the game in tears after hurting himself in a challenge with Sergio Ramos. Liverpool had been on top at that point, but following the shock of the Egyptian's injury they went on to lose due to a combination of two goalkeeping howlers by Loris Karius and a superb Gareth Bale goal. However, Klopp believed losing Salah was the turning point. "Of course it was a big moment in the game. I know if you say that after you lost it sounds like you're a bad loser but for us it was like a harsh challenge. It was like wrestling. "The shock of
Devastated Jurgen Klopp admitted he was shell-shocked by Loris Karius's costly mistakes in Liverpool's 3-1 Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid on Saturday. Liverpool goalkeeper Karius played a huge role in his side's misery in Kiev as he gifted Madrid two goals. The 24-year-old handed Karim Benzema the opening goal when he threw the ball against the France forward and it rebounded into the net. Then, with Liverpool hoping to snatch a late equaliser, Karius let Gareth Bale's long-range effort slip through his grasp and into the net. Karius was in tears afer the final whistle, but tellingly not one of Liverpool's shattered players went over to immediately console him. Only Madrid's jubilant stars acknowledged the German's angst before, still sobbing uncontrollably, he went toward Liverpool's supporters to hold his hands up in an attempt to apologise for his blunders. While he wouldn't publicly condemn Karius, Reds boss Klopp made it clear the difference in the match was ...
After a season dominated by injuries and disappointment at dropping down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu, Gareth Bale showed why he was once the most expensive player in the world to win a third consecutive Champions League final for Real Madrid. Bale came off the bench to score twice, including a stunning overhead kick with his first meaningful touch, as Real ran out 3-1 winners over Liverpool to secure a 13th European Cup in Kiev. Yet, despite the euphoria, Bale refused to commit his future to Madrid after being left on the sidelins from the start, just as he had for last season's final in his native Cardiff. "Obviously I was very disappointed not to start the game, I felt I deserved it but the manager makes the decisions," said Bale. "I have to sit down with my agent in the summer and discuss it." The Welshman didn't waste any time in making an impact with an acrobatic bicycle kick that will live long in the memory as it looped over the helpless Loris Karius, on a ...
Cristiano Ronaldo cast a shadow over Real Madrid's third consecutive Champions League triumph by suggesting he could have played his last game for the Spanish giants in Saturday's 3-1 win over Liverpool in Kiev. Ronaldo, 33, has now won five European Cups in all, but failed to score in a fourth final as Gareth Bale was the hero for Real after coming off the bench to score twice. "I am going to enjoy this moment and in the next few days I will give an answer to the fans, who have always been at my side," Ronaldo told BeIN Sports Spain. "It was very nice to be at Real Madrid. In the next few days I will speak." Ronaldo later admitted his immediate post-match comments had been ill-timed. "It wasn't the perfect time. I don't want to take away any credit from what Madrid have done. To win three consecutive Champions Leagues is a unique moment, he added. "Personal situations are not important at this moment." Ronaldo's comments appeared to target Real president Florentino Perez for a lack ..
He was one of the all-time greats as a player, and Zinedine Zidane now merits consideration as one of the game's great managers after making history with Real Madrid in Saturday's Champions League final. His team's 3-1 win over Liverpool on a dramatic evening in Kiev allowed Zidane to become the first coach ever to win the Champions League in three consecutive seasons, with Real becoming the first team to achieve that feat in more than 40 years. Less than two and a half years after being promoted from his position as coach of Real's second team to his first managerial role at the highest level, the Frenchman has become only the third coach in the history of the game to lift the European Cup three times. Leaving behind contemporaries Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, Zidane has equalled former Liverpool manager Bob Paisley and Carlo Ancelotti, the man he used to serve as an assistant. "I need to congratulate the players as it is not at all easy what they are doing," Zidane said after ...
Gareth Bale, who came off the bench at the 61st minute, sealed Real Madrid's 3-1 victory over Liverpool in Kiev, winning the Blancos' third straight Champions League title.
Mumbai's Wankhede stadium is all geared up to witness another cricketing extravaganza as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be looking to beat two-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League Final (IPL) on Sunday.Having failed to beat the former India skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team in both the group stage meetings as well as the first Qualifier match this season, the Sunrisers are going to have to produce something out of the blue if they are to beat CSK on the fourth attempt and lift their second title today. However, the Sunrisers will be more than optimistic about their chances of emerging winners as they have the meanest bowling attack in the league, with the lowest economy rates among all teams, boasting the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, and 19-year-old Afghanistan sensation Rashid Khan. They also have an inconsistent but formidable batting line-up, with captain Kane Williamson being the top run-getter this far this season. Also, their ...
Former Test captain Ramiz Raja says the smart watch controversy was unnecessarily created by media during the Pakistan and England Test match at Lords. ICC's Anti-Corruption officials rapped the Pakistan team for two of its players, Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam, wearing apple smart watches on the field on the first day of the match. I think it was an unnecessary controversy because this is not something new, Raja told the Jang newspaper in London. Raja pointed out that during the one-off Test against Ireland in Malahide earlier this month, he had in fact inquired from Asad as to why he was wearing a smart watch and he responded by saying that it was too keep a tab on his fitness and timing. The Pakistani media has also reported that even the ICC's anti-corruption officer in the Lords test was not aware of the rules and laws governing wearing of a smart watch in a match. Indian skipper Virat Kohli's mentor and childhood coach, Raj Kumar Sharma has said the International Cricket Council (ICC) should punish the culprits if they find out that last year's India-Sri Lanka Test match at Galle was fixed.Sharma' statement comes after ICC on Saturday launched an investigation into the July 2017 Test match between India and Sri Lanka after a sting operation done by Al Jazeera claimed that the match was played on a pitch doctored at the behest match-fixers.Talking about the same, Sharma told ANI: "It's a big regret. American Noah Lyles matched the fastest time in the world this year in winning the 200 meters in 19.69 seconds Saturday at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League athletics meet. The 20-year-old former world junior champion, helped by a tailwind at the legal limit of 2.0 m/sec, set a personal best to equal South Africa's Clarence Munyai for the top 2018 time and even shock himself. "To be honest, I'm a little scared," Lyles said. "I didn't think I would be running this fast this season, this soon. I didn't think I was ready but my body was." The showdown at Eugene, Oregon, marks the final "Pre" at 99-year Hayward Field before a major reconstruction ahead of hosting the 2021 World Outdoor Athletics Championships. Starting one lane from the outside, Lyles made a great start around the curve and surged over the final 100 to finish .01 off Justin Gatlin's meet record. "Everybody will just have to deal with it," Lyles said. "I'm here to dominate." London 2017 world bronze medalist Jereem ...
Jos Buttler insisted England could achieve what would be a remarkable victory in the first Test after playing a key role in denying Pakistan a win by an innings at Lord's on Saturday. Pakistan were poised to go 1-0 up in this two-match series inside three days as England suffered their latest top-order collapse. But Buttler (66 not out) and Test debutant Dominic Bess (55 not out), who came together with England still 69 runs behind at 110 for six, shared an unbroken century stand that took the hosts to a total of 235 in their second innings at stumps. England now lead by 56 runs, albeit they have just four wickets standing and with the new ball available to Pakistan early in Sunday's play. But at least they have a glimmer of hope, with Buttler and Bess batting through the evening session after England captain Joe Root's exit for 68 completed a woeful slump that saw four wickets lost for just 19 runs. "Of course there is (belief we can win)," said Buttler, who had been recalled for his

It has been very nice playing for Real Madrid," Fox News quoted Ronaldo as saying post the match. He, however, then tried to clarify his comments in a subsequent interview."I am not saying I am going, in the coming days we will see. They took something out of context, that I should not have said. I did not know it would be so strong.
