Prithvi shines as Delhi Daredevils score 163/5 vs Sunrisers

Delhi Daredevils could not cash in on the brilliant platform laid by young Prithvi Shaw as Sunrisers Hyderabad restricted them to 163 for 5 in an IPL encounter here today. Shaw smashed 65 off 36 balls but after scoring 95 in the first 10 overs, DD managed only 67 in the back 10 with the pitch getting slower and the odd delivery holding up. Leg-spinner Rashid Khan (2/23 in 4 overs) was the most impressive bowler for Sunrisers as he put the brakes in the second half of the Delhi innings. Shaw once again provided a blazing start, reaching to his second IPL half-century in only 25 balls. His innings had six boundaries and three huge sixes. He teed off with six over long on off Sandeep Sharma and then lofted Shakib Al Hasan inside out for his second maximum. The most fruitful over was the final one in the Powerplay where Shaw literally got stuck into Siddarth Kaul, hitting him for a six and three boundaries. The 18-year-old is one of the cleanest hitters among the 'Gen-Next' players. With .

Narine has done better in bowling than batting this season: Uthappa

Kolkata Knight Riders vice-captain Robin Uthappa has praised the all-round skills of his team-mate Sunil Narine but said that the West Indian has been doing better in the bowling department this IPL season. "Sunil (Narine) is someone who is always enjoyed batting, someone who's always been a batsman who can bowl than a bowler. But what he bowled and what he does with his bowling skill is that his batting got overshadowed," Uthappa told reporters ahead of KKR's match against Mumbai Indians tomorrow. Narine has picked up 10 wickets from nine games and also has contributed with the bat amassing 193 runs with highest score of 50. "So he (Narine) could always bat, open the innings. We saw that he can utilise the powerplay so well with the way he bats. And having someone like me at number three also makes it easier for the team and the management also to make that decision that if a wicket falls quickly, then you have another opening batsmen going in," said Uthappa. "But he's come off so ...

Batra says India should aim 'double digit' medals in 2020 Oly, backs politicians in NSFs

Indian Olympic Association President Narinder Batra today said that the country should aim to win "double digit" medals at the Tokyo Olympics and around 40 at the 2024 games in Paris. The IOA president feels that a good show will then help them gain public support in its bid to host the 2032 Summer Games. Batra had recently told International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach -- when he visited the country last month -- that India would bid for 2032 Olympics, 2026 Youth Olympics and 2030 Asian Games. "Our target should be to win medals in double digits in 2020 Tokyo Olympics and around 40 medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This we need as we want to bid for 2032 Olympics. It is difficult to win public support (to bid for Olympics) if we do not do well and win medals in the Olympics itself," Batra said. "We have to plan for 2020 and 2024 Olympics and we have to find the talent in the country. We have to do this together with the national federations as well as government. We have to .

Dhoni lauds spinners, Kohli blames it on dropped catches

Mahendra Singh Dhoni praised his spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh for their stellar show while his opposite number Virat Kohli rued the dropped catches during Chennai Super Kings' six-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL match here today. "Spinners did not get turn (from the track) and I felt they needed to bowl really well. That's where Bhajju pa (Harbhajan) and Jadeja did well. On surfaces such as these, Jadeja bowls really well. He got Virat and then AB getting out (to Harbhajan) early helped him. We bowled well as a team," Dhoni said after the match. Kohli, on his part, referred to the dropped catches of Dwayne Bravo by Parthiv Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal. Chennai were in trouble at that stage but chances went abegging. "It was a close game. Dropped catches don't help," Kohli said. "It wasn't the ideal day for us: losing so many wickets. But that's how this game goes. We gave a really good effort in the second half. The wicket played slow throughout .

I take Sindhu just like any other opponent: Saina

Saina Nehwal has never really tried to decode as to why she has enjoyed a higher success rate against arch-rival PV Sindhu, whom she considers as just another opponent. London Olympics bronze medallist Saina has a 3-1 head-to-head record in the international matches against Rio Games silver medallist Sindhu, including the win in the Commonwealth Games final. "It's not about me playing against Sindhu or any other opponent. I just take her (Sindhu) as any other opponent. I have issues with some of the players but I am comfortable playing against some of them. May be my game is more suited while playing against them. But I don't know how it happened but it is happening on the court," Saina said. She was speaking to reporters at the sidelines of a felicitation function of the Commonwealth Games medal winning shuttlers by the Badminton Association of India. "I keep working on my areas of weakness. I want to think that I am better than my opponent but actually that is not. May be Sindhu or .

CSK blow away RCB, inch closer towards IPL Play-Offs

Chennai Super Kings are virtually through to the Indian Premier League play-offs after a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore, courtesy a superb bowling effort from the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh. Jadeja (3/18 in 4 overs) and Harbahajan (2/22 in 4 overs) wreaked havoc as RCB could only manage 127 for 9, largely due to efforts from Parthiv Patel (53 off 41 balls) and Tim Southee (36 off 26 balls). On a tricky pitch, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (31 no off 23 balls) picked up Yuzvendra Chahal for some special treatment with three huge sixes as CSK knocked off the required runs in only 18 overs to move to 14 points from 10 games. Another win in the next four matches will guarantee CSK a spot as 16 points has always been a cut-off for play-off qualification. RCB's sloppy fielding also contributed to their downfall. At 80 for 4 in the 13th over, CSK were in a spot of bother but Parthiv as usual was shoddy behind the stumps, dropping Dwayne Bravo ...
