Struggling sides Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore will have a fight for survival when they lock horns in an Indian Premier League here tomorrow. Having beaten Chennai Super Kings in their adopted home ground in Pune, MI will go out with their tails up with confidence to take on a strong batting line-up of RCB, which has the likes of Virat Kohli and Brendon McCllum. On the other hand, the heartbreaking back-to-back defeats at the hands of CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders in their backyard would have devastated the team's confidence, but RCB will have to play out of their skins to stay in the competition. It has been an almost identical journey for both teams so far. Mumbai and Dinesh Karthik-led KKR have managed just two wins in seven matches each, but the visitors are ahead at sixth place due to better net run rate. Whichever team that loses tomorrow will find it more difficult to get a shot at a play-offs berth. Mumbai would like to take a cue from their last encounter ...

Seven South Korean sports associations are considering forming joint teams with North Korea for this year's Asian Games in Indonesia, an official told AFP today - but reports said football will not be joining them. At their groundbreaking summit on Friday, the latest step in a rapidly moving diplomatic sequence, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the South's president Moon Jae-in agreed to show solidarity by "jointly participating in international sports events such as the 2018 Asian Games". The phrasing left open whether it was a reference to unified teams, or marching together at opening ceremonies, as they have done at several past Olympics, including this year's Winter Games in Pyeongchang in the South. But a spokeswoman for the South's national Olympic committee told AFP that the country's governing bodies for "basketball, judo, canoe, gymnastics, table tennis, rowing and soft tennis have expressed interest". No details had been discussed yet, she added. Seoul's unification ...

Cricket Australia is trying to convince India to begin their four-match Test series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a day-night game at Adelaide from December 6-10. While releasing Australia's international playing schedule today, CA Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said his Board is in discussions with the BCCI to convince them to play a day-night Test in Adelaide. "It is our preference that we play India in a day-night test match in Adelaide, but we are still working through this detail and hope to have an answer on this in the coming weeks," Sutherland said in a media release. India have not played a Test under lights though there is speculation that they might play a day-night Test against West Indies later in the year. Adelaide has hosted day-night Tests in the last three years against New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and England and they are hoping to stage another match under lights against India. India will begin their Australia tour with a three-match T20 series
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli said they didn't deserve to win against Kolkata Knight Riders and blamed the sloppy fielding for their six-wicket loss which has jeopardised their IPL campaign. RCB slumped to their fifth defeat in seven games after failing to defend 176 against KKR last night. "If we look back, we didn't deserve to win. I don't think we're trying hard enough, we need to be hard on ourselves. We don't deserve to win if we field like that. We can't afford to field like that and let singles go to boundaries. We were just not good enough tonight." If RCB lose their next match, they would put themselves in a precarious situation of winning all remaining games, out of which four are away games. Kohli said they need to consider every match as a virtual semi-final from now. "I can't pin point anything right now, we need to win six out of seven to qualify from here. We need to be in that mindset to take every match as as virtual semi-final from now," he ...
Zinedine Zidane may have won two consecutive Champions League titles but he refuses to admit a third would brand this his very own era at Real Madrid. Real stand on the brink of a trio of finals ahead of their second leg against Bayern Munich in the last four tomorrow, when they will carry a 2-1 lead, and two away goals, to the Santiago Bernabeu. It makes them favourites to go through and, for many, heavy favourites to win the tournament after already beating Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus in the knock-out stages. For Zidane, a third European crown as coach is now in sight, which would put him level with Carlo Ancelotti and Bob Paisley in the pantheon of successful managers. Only the three triumphs of Paisley, however, came at one club, Liverpool, and over a single era, in 1977, 1978 and 1981. Ancelotti's treble stretched across 11 years, with two clubs, Real and AC Milan. "We cannot talk about this," Zidane said on Friday. "Coaches like this were given a lot of time, they did a lot
Lionel Messi revelled in Barcelona's seventh La Liga title in 10 seasons, saying his team were "far superior" to their domestic rivals during their double-winning campaign. The Argentinian star scored a brilliant 30th La Liga hat-trick as Barca survived a scare to beat Deportivo La Coruna 4-2, wrapping up the club's 25th league title with four matches to spare and keeping their hopes of an unbeaten season alive. "We have been far superior to our rivals, we haven't lost a match during the whole season," Messi told Barcelona's in-house television channel. "It's a very special Liga in that sense, because we haven't lost a single match. We've had some tough times and we've overcome everything without losing, which is unbelievable." Regaining the top-flight crown from Real Madrid also secured Barcelona their third double in four years after thrashing Sevilla 5-0 in last weekend's Copa del Rey final. The only blemish on their season was a stunning Champions League quarter-final loss to Roma
Franck Ribery has issued a battle cry before tomorrow's Champions League semi-final second leg at Real Madrid where Bayern Munich know they must be ruthless in front of goal to stage an unlikely comeback. Bayern have it all to do at the Santiago Bernabeu after wasting several chances in last week's 2-1 first-leg loss in Munich. "The battle is lost, but the war is not over," the Frenchman wrote on Twitter, borrowing from the famous Charles de Gaulle quote. "We will get our chances in Madrid." The 35-year-old Ribery was one of the few Bayern stars to shine in the defeat at the Allianz Arena. A dreadful error from Bayern defender Rafinha let in substitute Marco Asensio to score a second-half winner, handing holders Real a significant advantage. After Joshua Kimmich gave Bayern an early lead, Ribery twice came agonisingly close to scoring for Munich. He stumbled at the crucial moment in a one-on-one with Real goalkeeper Keylor Navas in the first half before Marcelo equalised for ...
Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde was delighted that his side "finally" wrapped up a 25th La Liga title with four matches to spare, after a Lionel Messi hat-trick secured a thrilling 4-2 victory at Deportivo La Coruna. Valverde's men completed a league and cup double after thrashing Sevilla 5-0 in last week's Copa del Rey final, regaining the Spanish crown from Real Madrid and relegating Deportivo in the process. "When you chase it for so long you say 'finally'," he told Spanish television yesterday. "I feel very happy because in the end the league is very long, it starts in August... and when spring arrives everything is decided, we have passed everything. "We've been pursuing it since the beginning, we have been in the lead, we've finished well, with a big margin... It's the first La Liga that I've won." The only blip on the Catalans' season was the stunning Champions League quarter-final loss at Roma when they blew a 4-1 first-leg lead. "The elimination (by Roma) marked us a little .

Opener Chris Lynn's unbeaten 62-run knock and Robin Uthappa's (36) disciplined inning helped Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Sunday.
Opener Chris Lynn anchored his innings to perfection as Kolkata Knight Riders were back to winning ways with a comfortable six-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL encounter, here tonight. Chasing a sub-par target of 176, KKR reached the target in 19.1 overs with Lynn scoring an unbeaten 62 off 52 balls with seven fours and a six. KKR captain Dinesh Karthik relishing his new found role as a finisher, played his part with a 10-ball-23 to make it easy in the end. KKR with eight points remained in fourth place while Virat Kohli's men slumped further with their fifth defeat in seven games. At the onset of the chase, Lynn and Sunil Narine (27 off 19 balls) provided a solid if not spectacular foundation adding 51 runs in the Powerplat overs. Lynn's straight six off a Umesh Yadav yorker was exhilarating but he was lucky to get reprieve when he miscued a lofted shot trying to hit Yuzvendra Chahal against the turn but Murugan Ashwin misjudged it completely. Yadav was also ..
