Employees' kids playing for U-19 Railways, BCCI set to bring stringent rules
The BCCI is all set to issue a diktat for Indian Railways, sating that only permanent employees will be allowed to play in the Board's U-19 tournament - Cooch Behar Trophy. There is a distinct possibility that Indian sports' biggest recruiters will have to disband their U-19 team if the BCCI technical committee recommendation is ratified by the general body. During a recent technical committee meeting in Kolkata, its members found that Railways is the only BCCI unit whose junior team (U-19) comprised children of employees. "The technical committee has recommended that from now on, any institutional unit taking part in any BCCI tournament (age-group to senior level tournament) can only select employees," a senior BCCI official and technical committee member told PTI today. "We have received complaints that Railways' employees' kids are playing U-19 Nationals. This was not the idea," the senior official said. Dropping shooting from 2022 Commonwealth Games will be a huge setback for India, especially for its young shooters, said the country's only individual Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra. "No doubt, it will be a huge setback for the country and our shooters. It will hit hard on the up and coming shooters," Bindra said at the sidelines of a felicitation ceremony of India's Olympic medallists by the visiting International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach. The event was organised by the Indian Olympic Association at a city hotel last night. "Shooting is an optional sport and they (Birmingham organisers) say they don't have the facilities to host shooting events. Had Durban (South Africa) hosted the 2022 CWG, shooting would have been there," he added. Durban was to originally host the 2022 CWG but it later expressed its inability to host the Games due to financial problems. Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri warned his side are heading to Turin on Sunday determined to end Juventus' long reign as the kings of Italian football. Juventus could have sealed a seventh consecutive title at home this weekend but for a 1-1 draw at lowly Crotone and Napoli's 4-2 fightback against Udinese midweek which reignited the Scudetto title race.
