Shadab Khan fined for violation in West Indies T20

Pakistan's teenage leg-spinner Shadab Khan has been fined for violating the players' code of conduct in a Twenty20 against the West Indies, the International Cricket Council said today. The 19-year-old was fined 20 percent of his match fee and handed a one demerit point following a "send off" signal after dismissing West Indian opener Chadwick Walton in the second Twenty20 international in Karachi on Monday. "The Pakistan wrist spinner was found to have violated article 2.1.7 of the code, which relates to 'using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his dismissal during an international match'," the ICC said in a statement. Saina Nehwal's father granted access to CWG Village

A day after Saina Nehwal complained about her father Harvir Singh's name being missing from the team official category short-listed for accommodation in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Village, the Indian star shuttler could finally breathe a sigh of relief.The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has now granted Saina's father access to the athletes' village at the 2018 CWG in Gold Coast, Australia.Confirming the news, Saina told ANI that she would like to thank the IOA and Sports Minister Rajyawardhan Rathore for helping her out in this accreditation issue. Aashish Kapoor replaces Venkatesh Prasad in BCCI Jr Selection Panel

Former India player Aashish Kapoor was today named as a replacement of Venkatesh Prasad in the three-member All-India Junior Selection Committee of the BCCI. Kapoor was a part of the original five-member panel selected in 2016 but was later kept out as BCCI pruned it to three as per Lodha panel diktat. "Since selectors can only be replaced in an AGM, BCCI for past one year has been paying Kapoor his monthly salary. When Prasad resigned, it was only natural Gyanendra Pandey and Rakesh Parikh are the other two members of the selection panel. A former off-spinner, Kapoor played four Tests and 17 ODIs for India, including the 1996 ICC World Cup. He has also played 128 first-class games and 93 List A matches. IOA arranges accreditation for Saina's father after her pull-out threat

The Indian Olympic Association was today forced to get an official accreditation for Saina Nehwal's father Harvir Singh after the star shuttler in an angry missive had threatened to pull out of the Commonwealth Games. The 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist wrote a letter to a senior IOA office-bearer currently in Gold Coast where she had said that if her father's name is not cleared as "an official", she will not take part in the quadrennial extravaganza. "I msgd u and tried to call u but u didn't pick up the call but there is so much issue going on with my father...if his accreditation is no (sic) cleared as an official I am not going to play the matches," Saina wrote in her letter addressed to the IOA. An official in the IOA confirmed that Saina had indeed written a letter. "It's our duty to help the sportspersons. They should focus on winning medals. Yes, Saina had written to a senior official. Kerala Assembly congratulates state football team

The Kerala Assembly today congratulated the state football team for winning the Santosh Trophy. Speaking on a resolution moved by Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government is committed to promote sports and it would take all steps to improve infrastructure facilities. The team would be accorded a civic reception here on April 6 which would be observed as victory day, he said. Steps would be taken to ensure the protection of sports grounds in the state, Vijayan said. The fall-out from Australia's ball-tampering scandal had a major effect on the performance of the team, new captain Tim Paine said after his team were thrashed by 492 runs in the fourth Test at the Wanderers Stadium today. The Bombay High Court today asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) if it would continue its decision of not supplying additional water to the Wankhede Stadium during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament. The court asked the civic body to file an affidavit on this. A division bench of Justices A S Oka and Riyaz Chagla was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by NGO 'Loksatta Movement' in 2016, raising concerns over water usage for ground management during the IPL tournament, when the state was reeling under drought. In April 2016, the high court had directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift all the IPL matches to be held in Maharashtra post April 30, outside the state due to the severe drought condition.
