ISL final heroes Mailson, Nelson extend Chennaiyin FC stay
Chennaiyin FC today announced a two-year contract renewal for Mailson Alves and a one-year extended stay for Gregory Nelson after the duo powered the franchise to a stunning 3-2 win over Bengaluru FC in the final of Indian Super League. In the final at Sree Kantireeva Stadium, Mailson jumped high on two occasions to head home from a couple of pinpoint Nelson corner kicks, leaving the fancied home team and its fans shocked. The Brazilian centre-back was solid in defence alongside Chennaiyin skipper Henrique Sereno throughout the ISL season, helping keep a joint-highest eight clean sheets. Mailson was equally lethal at the other end of the pitch, becoming the highest scoring defender this season with four headed goals, two of which came in the final. His aerial prowess and no-nonsense approach was instrumental in helping the club win its second ISL title. Mailson also became one of only three players to have played for Chennaiyin FC in both their final appearances in the ISL, with Jeje .

Gursimar favourite even as stars return for sixth leg of Hero WPG Tour
Gursimar Badwal, who has won two of the last three events and has been the most consistent in the 2018 season, will begin as a big favourite for the sixth leg of the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour. Gursimar has not finished outside Top-5 this season and she also leads the Hero Order of Merit. The Rs. 8-lakh sixth leg coming in exactly a month after the fifth, will also see the return of Vani Kapoor, Amandeep Drall and Gaurika Bishnoi, who missed some of the earlier domestic events as they were playing in Australia. The trio missed the last three legs. While Vani won the first leg of the ongoing season, Amandeep and Gaurika, winner of the 2017 Hero Order of Merit, are still looking for their first win of 2018. New Delhi World Cup to offer 16 Olympic quotas in shooting
The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in the Capital early next year will offer 16 quota places for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The qualification route to the Olympic Games in Tokyo will start from this year's ISSF World Championship in Changwon, Korea in August-September. A total of 360 quotas will be distributed in the 15 Olympic shooting events. The tournament in New Delhi, which will be held at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges, will offer two quotas each in both individual men and women's sections for 10 air rifle, 10m air pistol, rifle 3 position and rapid fire pistol. The tournament will not involve quotas for mixed team events, which are marked only for the World Championships. The 52nd World Championships will be held from August 31 to September 15. There are 48 individual Olympic quotas and 12 mixed team Olympic quotas set to be assigned there. Tennis great Vijay Amritraj says there should be least controversy with regards to India's doubles combination in Davis Cup since the doubles match matters only when there are "even singles matches". AITA has teamed up Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna for the next month's tie against China despite latter's reservations about being paired with the veteran legend. Rabada cleared to face Aussies after ban revoked
South Africa star speedster Kagiso Rabada has been cleared to play remainder of the four-match series against Australia after he won an appeal against his two-Test suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC).Rabada has not been found guilty of the charge of making inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with a player following a hearing before the Right Honourable Michael Heron QC yesterday.The 22-year-old was initially deemed guilty of a Level 2 breach of the ICC code of conduct by match referee Jeff Crowe after an altercation with Australian captain Steve Smith in the second Test at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth.The incident happened in the 52nd over of Australia's first innings of the second Test, when moving towards the slips, Rabada made physical contact with Steve Smith, with his shoulder.He had received a fine of 50 percent of his match fee and three demerit points after a disciplinary hearing following his denial of the charge.However, South African ...

England women notched up their second successive win as they comprehensively thrashed India A by six wickets in a warm-up T20 game here today. The visitors, who had defeated India A by 45 runs in the first practice match yesterday, continued their winning streak at the Brabourbe Stadium. Rabada cleared for Aussie Tests after shoulder barge appeal
South Africa's Kagiso Rabada was cleared to play the remaining two Tests against Australia after winning an appeal against his ban over an alleged shoulder barge on Tuesday. The International Cricket Council said Rabada had been found not guilty of making inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with Australian captain Steve Smith during the second Test in Port Elizabeth last week. Judicial commissioner Michael Heron of New Zealand found Rabada guilty of the lesser charge of conduct contrary to the spirit of the game following an appeal hearing on Monday. Heron reduced Rabada's penalty from three demerit points to one, and reduced his fine from 50 percent to 25 percent of his match fee. Rabada's total of demerit points was therefore reduced from nine to seven, one short of the threshold for an automatic two-Test ban.
