Lahiri slips to T-74, Stenson keeps lead

Anirban Lahiri endured a roller-coaster back nine to card a two-over 74 and slipped down to T-74 after the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational here. Lahiri had two doubles, on the 8th and the 18th and it made for a rather rough day, as he also endured two other bogeys on 10th and 11th. He did have four birdies, first on fifth and then in a space of four holes from 12th to the 15th at Bay Hill. Meanwhile, Swede Henrik Stenson did just enough to stay one shot ahead. Stenson missed a short birdie putt and a 12-foot eagle attempt on the back nine Saturday. He even had his tee shot knocked down by a gust of wind that led to bogey and closed out a one-under 71 to go into the final round with another chance to win at Bay Hill. Among the rivals in focus will be Tiger Woods (69), who is five shots behind in Tied-10th. Bryson DeChambeau also missed his share of chances in a round of 72 and was second one shot behind Stenson. A number of players are still very much in range, and one of

I have an offer from Chinese club, increase my salary: Miku tells BFC

Bengaluru FC forward Miku has said he has an offer from a Chinese club and urged the ISL team to increase his salary if they want to keep him. "I have an offer from a China club," Miku told a sports channnel after Bengaluru were beaten by Chennaiyin FC in the final of the Indian Super League here last night. "If they (BFC) need to keep me, they need to do something to increase my budget," he went on to say. However, the thought is not playing on his mind for now as he is focused on finishing the season. "The clubs in China pay six or seven times more than in India," he added. Miku has been the most treasured member of Bengaluru this year and was the leading goal scorer in the ISL, striking 15 times, which helped his side storm into the final. He had expressed disappointment after Bengaluru lost to Chennaiyin in an enthralling final. Bengaluru FC owner to lodge complaint with AIFF over referring

Bengaluru FC owner Parth Jindal today said he will write to the All India Football Federation for using Video Assistant Referees (VAR) in the next Indian Super League season to cut out "erroneous" calls by referees. "Just saw the highlights - @UdantaK goal was not offside at all - @nishukumar22 should have had a penalty - really tough to take this loss - will officially write to AIFF to use VAR next season in the @IndSuperLeague," Jindal said in a tweet. Jindal was referring to Udanta's goal which was disallowed by the referee, who had red-flagged him for an offside. He was also referring to Nishu Kumar, who could have had a penalty after he was brought down by Inigo Calderon inside the box. Replays suggested that the decision could have gone the other way. The remark comes in the wake of Chennaiyin FC handing out a 2-3 defeat to Bengaluru in yesterday's ISL final.

Santosh Trophy remains a big supply line: Shabbir Ali

The national football championship for the Santosh Trophy may have lost its sheen to the likes of I-League and Indian Super League, but two-time winning coach Shabbir Ali feels it remains a supply line of players at the national level. Ali was given the task to coach Bengal in 2009-10 when Kolkata last hosted the tournament, and guided the team to a second successive title. In 2011, he was bestowed with the coveted Dhyan Chand award. Fancied Bengal had not won the national football championships for 10 years and the former India captain was given the task to end the prolonged drought. Bengal not only reclaimed the trophy but players like Arnab Mondal, Robin Singh, Denson Devadas and Shankar Oraon established themselves at the national level. "I was missing two of my key players. Abhijit Mondal, who sustained an arm injury during training, while Lalkamal Bhowmick was also left out," Ali told PTI from Hyderabad, on the eve of the 72nd edition of the Santosh Trophy that's getting ...

Santosh Trophy giants Bengal wary of defending crown at home

Their preparation hampered due to unavailability of players, 32-time champions Bengal were faced with the onerous task of maintaining a terrific home record as they geared up to open their Santosh Trophy campaign against Manipur here tomorrow. The city has hosted the tournament on nine occasions and every time Bengal have won with flying colours. However, this time the defending champions are wary of "lack of preparation" as conceded by coach Ranjan Chowdhury. "I don't recall a time when Bengal were so short of preparation. I think I am facing this situation for the first time. We are almost without preparation," Chowdhury said. Bengal did not get to train with five of its players, including captain Jiten Murmu, as they were busy with I-League second division commitments. In such a scenario, heavyweights like Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Kerala will look to breach 'fort Kolkata'. Bengal have qualified with an all-win record defeating Chhattisgarh (2-0) and Jharkhand (2-0) in Patna. They ..

Hopeful South Africa name Rabada in Test squad

Kagiso Rabada has been named in South Africa's squad for the third Test against Australia - but two other fast bowlers have been added in case he loses his appeal against a ban. Rabada's appeal against a ban for the last two Tests of the series will be heard by New Zealand judicial commissioner Michael Heron by teleconference on Monday, with a verdict due to be announced within 48 hours. If Rabada is absent, the selectors may be tempted to pick not just a direct replacement but to consider a also adding a fast bowling all-rounder such as .
