Chawrasia eyes third successive Hero Indian Open title
Eyeing a consistent run in the European Tour, two-time defending champion SSP Chawrasia today said he is hoping to be third time lucky as he chases his dream of clinching the Hero Indian Open once again. I have played for the last couple of years on the European Tour, but Im not playing consistently. Thats my next target, I have to play well in Europe, Chawrasia said. Ive already won the Hero Indian Open twice so I will try my best this year. Im playing good, so lets see. I lost four times at the Indian Open (1999, 2006, 2013 and 2015), so I think thats why I went on to win twice. I think thats why I might win three times. Ill try my best and well see. English golfer Chris Wood yesterday had said that Chawrasia would be the person to beat to have any hopes of lifting the Indian Open title. Well, Ive won a couple of times here, so no doubt. Gambhir wants to give Delhi their 'deserved' success in IPL
Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir who has been named the Delhi Daredevils skipper said the team deserves success in the Indian Premier League (IPL)."The kind of squad we have, if we play to our ability, it is going to be difficult for anyone to beat us. It is all about playing to our potential," Gambhir told ANI.He added, "Delhi has deserved a lot of success in the past which they have not so hopefully this is the year where they can achieve a lot of success."Gambhir had earlier led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for seven years in the IPL. BCCI announces new pay structure for players
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced a new contract system and compensation structure for the players.The Committee of Administrators (CoA), appointed by the Supreme Court of India, announced BCCI Annual Player Contracts for the period from October 2017 to September 2018."The CoA was of the view that the performance and position of Indian Cricket need to be recognised with the fee structure comparable to the best in the world," the BCCI said in a statement.The statement further read, "The CoA recognises that the actual income of the BCCI fluctuates on an annual basis depending on the number of home matches Team India (Senior Men) plays. Hence, to insulate the player compensation, the CoA has sanctioned the creation of a 'Players Revenue/Compensation Equalisation Fund' (PR/CEF) to which the BCCI will contribute approximately Rs 125 crore per annum from its surplus."As per the new structure, there are four categories in Indian Men's team- Grade A+, ...

Oltmans appointed as new coach of Pakistan hockey team
Former India coach Roelant Oltmans was today officially appointed as the new chief coach of the Pakistan men's hockey team for a two-and-a-half-year term. Oltmans, who was in charge of Indian hockey for four years -- first as High Performance Director and later as chief coach since 2015 before his unceremonious sacking last September -- took to his official twitter handle to confirm the appointment. "Today I can confirm an Agreement with PHF for a role as Chief Coach for the next 2.1/2 Years," Oltmans wrote on his twitter page. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) confirmed the Dutchman's appointment later in the day. We're investigating match-fixing allegations in I League :AIFF
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) today said that it was investigating the match-fixing approaches made to players from the Minerva Punjab Football Club during the ongoing I-League. The Club owner Ranjit Bajaj had earlier revealed that several of his players were approached by bookies for match-fixing. "We have received a letter from Minerva Punjab Football Club highlighting approach to their players and officials from other participating teams in the Hero I-League. The case is presently being handled by AIFF Integrity officer who is doing a thorough investigation into the matter and necessary action will be taken as per the regulations," the AIFF said in a statement. The unnamed players were offered Rs 30 lakh in each case. One of the player is Indian while the other is a foreigner according to Bajaj.
